Great First impressions
After some research, I purchased this charger, given its features, the positive reviews and guarantees from the company, which look s rock solid. It looks and feels like a well built charger that does what it's designed to do, with surge protection built in, and the useful front socket makes this compact charger very practical. I'm pretty sure this cheaper will last a lot longer than my last one, which stopped working after a few short weeks!

The adaptor as a whole is Surge Protected, so anything plugged into either the mains socket on the front or the USBs on top will be beyond that protection.
In addition, USB A has a fixed maximum output of 5V so this could be considered a secondary level of protection.

There are several different fast / rapid charge standards, operating slightly differently to each other and copyrighted by the company which developed them.
The USB max output is 2.1A at 5V so 10.5W, if you have a device which requires less than this then it will charge at its maximum standard speed, if it needs more then it won't achieve maximum standard speed.
