Others don't compare
Nightvision is excellent, battery lasts well, resolution of captured images is very good, audio is decent. The device sits under cover so doesn't get exposed to weather much but it's survived getting splashed. The design would be nicer if it were all white or all black. Smaller size might mean a smaller battery but I'm sire it could be thinned down if not shortened. Bell is loud and easily heard. Easy to fix and to remove for charging. Needs a strong wifi connection to get instant alerts but this will be the same for all such devices. The sensor is very good though and has mo trouble detecting movement instantly. No subscription is great but if you choose a cloud storage option, the price is very resonable.

Good value
Seems a good value alternative to a Ring doorbell (or similar) with a monthly service charge. Ideally more double sided tape as I changed my mind on location after fitting it

Great Product
I bought this last week and am so happy that I did. Easy to install - and clear pictures to be seen. Night vision and perspective is great. Yet to have any substantial rain to test waterproofing and battery looks to be holding up well in the week I've had it.

Hi Alex,
Tapo D210 connects exclusively via Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz, IEEE 802.11b/g/n). It does not have a built-in cellular or mobile data modem, so it cannot connect directly to a mobile data network on its own.
Here's a breakdown of the two scenarios you may be considering:
• Using a mobile hotspot as the Wi-Fi source for the doorbell: Technically, the D210 could connect to a mobile hotspot (from a smartphone or a dedicated mobile Wi-Fi device) since it would appear as a standard 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. However, this is not an officially supported or recommended setup, and performance may vary depending on signal stability and data speeds.
• Accessing the doorbell remotely via mobile data on your phone: Yes, you can use the Tapo app on your smartphone over mobile data to view live footage, receive notifications, and manage the doorbell — as long as the doorbell itself remains connected to a Wi-Fi network at its installed location.
In summary, the D210 always requires a stable Wi-Fi connection at the installation site to function. Your phone, however, can use mobile data to access and control the doorbell remotely through the Tapo app.

Hello Grabba,
The supplier has advised the following for the Tapo D210 2K 3MP Video Doorbell with Chime:
"The Tapo D210 does not need to be hardwired. It is a battery-powered only model with a built-in non-removable battery. There is no hardwiring option for this doorbell.
When the battery runs low, you'll need to detach the doorbell from its mount and charge it via USB (Type-C), then reattach it once fully charged.
As an additional option, the Tapo D210 is also compatible with the Tapo A201 solar panel (sold separately), which can help keep the battery charged without frequent manual recharging."
Thank you for using Q&A.
Hi,
The Tapo D210 does not support hardwiring, but the Tapo D235 and Tapo D130 do.
Thanks for using Q&A.
Hello there,
The Tapo D210 2K 3MP Video Doorbell with Chime cannot be fixed with strong double-sided tape instead of screws. The doorbell requires the use of wall screws for installation, as the adhesive mounting tape is not compatible with the D210 model.
Thank you for using Q&A.
Hi,
Yes, the doorbell has a live view function. Once configured, you can view it anytime via the Tapo App.
Thanks for using Q&A.

Hello There.
After checking with our supplier, they have advised for Tapo D210 2K 3MP Video Doorbell with Chime.
Cameras and video doorbells, placing one behind glass is generally not recommended for the following reasons:
• IR night vision interference: Most doorbells use infrared (IR) LEDs for night vision. When placed behind glass, the IR light reflects off the glass surface back into the lens, causing a washed-out or glowing image at night. This essentially makes night vision unusable.
• Motion detection limitations: Many doorbells use PIR (Passive Infrared) sensors to detect motion. PIR sensors cannot detect heat signatures through glass, which means motion detection would likely not work reliably or at all.
• Glare and reflections: During the day, glass can cause significant glare and reflections, reducing image clarity and making it harder to see who is at the door.
• Doorbell functionality: As a doorbell, it's designed to be accessible to visitors to press the button — placing it behind glass would prevent that entirely.
For best performance, the Tapo doorbell is designed to be mounted directly on an exterior wall. If outdoor mounting is a concern, it is water-resistant and can handle splashes, though installing it under a sheltered area like an eave or porch is recommended for long-term durability.
Thank you for using Q & A.
Hi,
To record the doorbell video recordings to a microSD card, please insert a microSD card into the doorbell/hub and go to the doorbell's Device Settings > Storage & Recording page to configure the related settings.
1. Enable the Local Recording feature.
2. On the Local Storage page, it's recommended to enable the Loop Recording option.
3. Go to the Recording Schedule page to set the recording time for "Don't Record", "Detection Recording", and "Continuous Recording".
4. Enable the Record Sound feature if you want to record sound.

Hello Princess.
After checking with our supplier, they have advised for Tapo D210 2K 3MP Video Doorbell with Chime.
The Tapo D210 utilizes high-quality, heavy-duty 3M adhesive tape for its mounting bracket.
3M is industry-renowned for its incredible bonding strength, weather resistance, and durability. Once applied to a clean, flat surface, it provides a highly secure hold designed to easily support the weight of the doorbell and withstand outdoor elements like rain and temperature fluctuations.
To ensure the adhesive achieves its maximum strength and doesn't budge, we recommend following these simple installation steps:
Clean the Surface: Thoroughly clean the mounting surface with rubbing alcohol to remove any dust, dirt, or oils, and let it dry completely. Avoid using household cleaners, which can leave a slick residue.
Apply Firm Pressure: Once you position the bracket, press and hold it firmly against the surface for at least 30 seconds.
Let it Cure: For the absolute strongest bond, let the adhesive cure for 24 hours before clicking the actual Tapo D210 doorbell into the bracket.
Note: The adhesive works best on smooth, solid surfaces like wood, metal, smooth tile, or finished glass. If you are mounting it to rough stucco, brick, or uneven concrete, we highly recommend using the included screws instead for a completely secure install.
