Competent not outstanding
I bought this to replace a Kobo Libra H2O, because that reader’s batter doesn’t last very long. This device suffers from the same issues. Books borrowed from the library can only be downloaded, if they are available to purchase from the Kobo bookstore. Deleting books that have been read is very hit and miss, because the ellipsis (…) to access the menu is so small. The colour screen is muddy, not as good as a mediocre phone, or tablet.

After comparing different models I settled on the Kobo Libra. I love that I can purchase books directly on the device but also upload my own epubs and articles via Google drive and instapaper.

Wonderful e-Reader
I bought this device to replace an aging Kindle Oasis. Amazon have done away with models that have physical controls so after some research (you can move your books over from one ecosystem to the other - instructions are easily found to do this online) I decided to switch to Kobo. I'm very happy I did. The device is much quicker than my Kindle and things seems better thought out over all - the user interface is much more sensibly laid out. I like the way the Kobo automatically groups series of books together for you and how it will offer to mark a book as "finished" when you stop at 96% because the rest of the book is just random blurb about something else. The colour is subtle but it's a nice touch - I don't read things like Manga so not such a big deal for me - and the screen is clear and easy to read. There is a slight (and I mean slight) amount of grain because of the colour screen but I haven't marked it down because it hasn't made any difference to my reading. The Kobo ecosystem is great - just as good as the Kindle one - and the VIP system where you can accumulate points to spend on books is much appreciated. I'm really glad I made the jump and won't be looking to go back to Kindle.
