Manhattan Ceiling Fan Light
Brilliant, love it. Blades slightly longer than last one.

Slightly disappointed at this "upgraded" version
I now have 7 "Argos Manhattan" white fans around my house - the first 5 were bought many years ago and have been great, but recently I wanted another 2 as after all these years we wanted one in the study and we thought we should have one in the guest bedroom. So I ordered these for next day collection and that all went fine but when I fitted them I found one of them was clicking on every rotation - I got that exchanged and now have both fitted (in the lounge as these are wider than the old design so needed a bigger space - the 2 we had in the lounge were installed in the other rooms mentioned). So here's the meat of the review - and bear in mind this is a direct comparison with the version sold by Argos some years ago: Improvements: - The new one takes 2 x LED bulbs so can be much brighter (the old one only took one and because of the dimmer feature did not play well with LEDs) - The new one only has 2 screws holding a (smaller) cover for the ceiling fitting so looks tidier Detractions (things they really should not have changed): - The motor (or maybe the controller unit) has a very loud hum that even vibrates through the ceiling to the room above even on low speed (the old ones run almost silent) - The light cannot be dimmed (the old one could) - The point where the blade enters the motor unit looks untidy as the slot is not as wide as the blade (the old one had slots wide enough for the blade so look much better) - The cover for the ceiling fitting is smaller (I know I said that was an improvement, but only in looks) so practically fitting the existing wiring, which in my case means 3 cables - two for the lighting ring and one for the wall switch - along with the 4-way connector block (the provided one only has 3 connectors) - it was a very tight fit and took a lot of fiddling to achieve. - The new one uses a radio transmitter to control it rather than the old infra-red one and each controller is pre-programmed to work with just the one fan - this means you if you have two fans in one room you cannot turn them both on or off with one controller (Not a problem for most people but I'm a geek and I have a smart IR controller that I can program to control fans and other devices in the room so, for example, the old fans would get turned off automatically at 11pm in case I forget) A final note for prospective purchasers: The instructions do say that the fan should be mounted on a ceiling so that the blades are 2.3m from the floor - I don't know about you but I live in a modern house with standard ceilings that are ~2.2m from the floor so there is no way of mounting it and meeting this requirement (I would need a 2.6m ceiling height as the blades are ~30cm from the ceiling). I guess this only matters if you are stupid enough to stand up and stretch your arms in to the air when standing under a fan that is on... Conclusion - they are still a good looking fan for a fair price but these changes have worsened rather than improved it in many regards so I would not recommend this to a friend.

Quality at the right price, looks perfect, cool.
Smart looking and works like a dream in my conservatory, ideal during the heatwave.nice to be able to leave the fan on without having the lights on during the day. Nice size, not domineering like some of the other cieling fans.

Brilliant fan
This is an amazing fan just be careful as only the white one is 140cm diameter the chrome coloured one is 105 I think. But it's very easy to install we put an extra piece of timber between the joists for added strength. The wiring is simple and the remote is brilliant. This has been a must have with this hot weather, we are nice and cool in our bedroom Top marks Argos

Absolutely Super
After reading previous reviews I was abit hesitatant ie:(too big-/hard to fit, but we needed to update, so went ahead..it is a bit awkward when fitting remote sensor in holding bracket to ceiling. However if you screw yr fixture brackets abit at a time then slide remote sensor in place..then tighten all screws securely to ceiling( bit of a neck ache)..But Wow it's a Super fan very quiet, has hourly timer/ remote control FAB-U-LOUS

Quiet and Elegant
Does the job completely. It’s large and the perfect feature in my bedroom for those warm nights. Remote control is an added bonus. Easy to assemble, needs 2 adults as very heavy plus an electrician or someone who knows what they are doing with regards to wiring it in. Low noise levels I’m extremely pleased with this purchase

A bit of a monster!
Bigger than we had imagined (our fault I suppose for not double checking the measurements) and now it looks like a giant evil spider clinging to our ceiling. Make sure this is what you really want before ordering!

Fan light
Very nice sturdy fan light lovely design however we had to return it through no fault of the light as we have low ceilings and didn't take into account the drop.

The small print
All light fittings must be fitted in accordance with wiring regulations from the Institute of Electrical Engineers (IEE) and current building regulations. We recommend you employ a qualified electrician and that manufacturer's fitting instructions are followed.
