Quality reflects price
I bought this to be shelves inside a cupboard so it did not really matter much about the quality… I did not expect much and was not disappointed. It’s chip board with a thin veneer which damages fairly easily (in fact it arrived chipped). The assembly was surprisingly difficult, particularly where the dowel connected three sections and needed forceful persuasion (hard to avoid chipping). Be careful when hammering in the panel pins for the backing, if they are too close to the edge it can again cause the veneer to chip. If you can put it together without chipping it’s reasonable and fairly sturdy for the money.

Difficult to assemble
Disappointed with the item as it was so difficult to assemble, the dowels that hold the parts together were difficult to align, this definitely needs two people to assemble.

Great alternative to the Kallax!
We bought this a few weeks ago as a storage swap for our toddlers toys. We were using an ottoman box so we could to toy rotation and keep the living room looking tidy, but it meant that when she did want something from the box… everything came off the top and everything came out making quite the mess so we measured up for a more practical solution. This offered enough storage spaces for everything by we needed and as it is a bit smaller than the typical IKEA Kallax, it meant it fit better but still plenty big enough for what we needed it for.

so happy I got these shelves.! I’ve been in the hunt for some decent shelves as ran out of room for Lego. These are a nice display unit and also doubles as a storage unit (with boxes). Just beautiful 😍 super easy to construct solo also

Yes, it can still support weight, but not as effectively as when it's in its original upright position, which is how it was designed to function.

Picture shows the unit horizontally, diagrams show it vertically. So how fun it not be used horizontally?

The Argos Home Squares 8 Cube Storage Unit - Grey can only be used vertically, not horizontally on its side. The way the parts fit together and the manner in which the fixings hold them, they wouldn't be suitable for the unit if it was lying down.
