The Panasonic KX-TGE820EB Big Button Cordless Phone is designed to make home calling simple and accessible, especially if regular phone buttons are difficult to use. The larger buttons with clear characters prevent misdials, while the LED indicator shows incoming calls at a glance. The Talking Caller ID announces who's ringing before you pick up. The automated call block filters unwanted calls. Callers not in your phonebook must press a number to get through, which disconnects robocalls.
It's hearing aid compatible with amplified sound for clearer conversations, plus handsfree calling and adjustable speaker and ringer volumes. The answer machine records up to 40 minutes of messages with personalised options. With up to 18 hours talktime or 250 hours standby, you won't need frequent recharging. It works up to 50m indoors and 300m outdoors, with out-of-range and low battery indicators. Features include 10 name and number memories, 40 ringtones, last number redial, caller ID, call log, and call divert. The phone has a 3-year manufacturer's guarantee. Exactly what I wanted.
This landline phone/answer machine set is great - Big Buttons, hearing aid compatible. Perfect for the 'more mature'. I struggled to set it up and wondered if I had done it properly then realised that until the batteries were fully charged (7 hours) it wasn't going to work. Next day was fine. Good instruction book, still learning how to do things.

Very disappointing
I needed to change my landline and having had Panasonic once before I decided to try it again. Admittedly my brain is not as good as it once was due to health issues, but I had such difficult trying to set it up that I gave up and repacked the phone into the box and put the experience down to very unclear instructions and guidance, not even able to phone anyone about it. I shall shun landlines from now on.

Panasonic Big button phone
I purchased this phone system to replace a very old Panasonic system on which the buttons were jamming. These are much improved and entering details in the phone book automatically are fed to the other handset. The volume is rather low even when at maximum but speakerphone volume is acceptable. The big buttons are a good feature.

Easy to set up
Bought this phone for my 98 year old mother. Was very easy to set up because it included an instruction booklet with clear operating instructions, no panic trying to download instructions from the internet. The large buttons make dialling easy, the ring tone was audible and a flashing light on the top of the handset when an incoming call is ringing made it even more noticeable. The conversation clarity is good for a hearing aid user. The instruction booklet made it easy to set up date, time, ring volume and store frequently used numbers. Well done to Panasonic.

Update from original poster. Contacted Virgin Media who checked the line and said there were no issues. However the caller ID functions on the new phone then started working. So far very pleased with it. Have set it to do not disturb during the night. If the call screening functions work as described it should stop the endless calls from scammers.
