I am not a fan of cool white lights but my son loves this. He is able to turn it on and off with ease and it works well on the timer. We have kept it indoors but we have had no issue with other light sets we have bought from Argos that have worked outside and assume this will be the same.

You can tell based on the battery pack.
It should say on battery pack IF it is suitable for outdoor use.
INDOOR USE ONLY battery pack has a slide off top, held on with a tiny screw. This gives NO PROTECTION TO BATTERIES!
OUTDOOR USE battery pack is made of thicker plastic, have a hinged lid, with 2 clips and a tiny screw along the opposite edge. Inside it will have a rubber seal on the outter edges, to protect the batteries from the elements. And usually there is a little loop to hook it up.
