Works well and quickly heats the water
Great for a single person, but I wish I had bought a larger capacity one . I use a small teapot that holds enough tea for a small mug and it dosent fill it .

Easy to use
Bought this for our old neighbour who now struggles to lift a kettle. She's over the moon as, having recently lost her husband, she can now make her own tea and coffee without having to wait for the help to arrive. Plug in and very easy to use

I bought the Breville HotCup VKJ142 for my mum, who has dementia, and it’s turned out to be a really helpful little appliance in her daily routine. She loves a cup of tea, but using a full kettle had become risky and difficult for her. This dispenser has made things much safer and easier. It heats and dispenses one cup at a time, which is perfect , no lifting heavy kettles or trying to pour boiling water. She only needs to press one button, and within seconds she has hot water ready for her tea. The fixed amount it dispenses means I don’t have to worry about her overfilling a cup, which used to be a problem. It’s also quick, tidy, and doesn’t use more energy than necessary. I’ve found the removable water tank easy to refill and clean, and the drip tray helps keep the counter free of spills. There are a couple of things to be aware of. It does dispense a full standard cup, so for smaller mugs you need to make sure the right cup is in place. And because it still dispenses very hot water, I’ve made sure to supervise her at first and check it’s placed safely on the worktop. But overall, it’s far safer for her than a traditional kettle. For the price, it’s been a great solution. It’s made my mum more independent with something she enjoys, while giving me peace of mind. I’m really pleased I bought it.

Hi Oat,
The VKJ142 dispenses water at near-boiling temperature, and does not allow for precise temperature control or measurement. For your baby’s safety, we suggest using a freshly boiled kettle and allowing the water to cool to the appropriate temperature before mixing.
Hi KAZ,
Breville VKJ142 is designed to automatically dispense approximately 250ml of water per activation, which is roughly one standard cup. Once this amount is dispensed, the unit will automatically stop, so there’s no need to manually turn it off after each use.
Hi Muji,
Breville products are designed and developed in the UK and U.S. by our engineers and our development team and manufactured in the People's Republic of China.
Hi Pastel,
The kettle part of the unit weighs 1075g when empty and 2575g when filled to the maximum 1.5L mark. If preferred, you can fill the unit using a separate jug or cup rather than removing it to fill directly from the tap. I hope this helps.
Hi Lyn,
The Breville VKJ142 HotCup Water Dispenser - Black, has a safety cut out so it will not boil if empty.
Thank you for using Q & A.
Hello Sally. The water inside the heating chamber does reach boiling point during the heating process. However, by the time the water is dispensed, its temperature is typically a few degrees lower, around 95-98°C We hope this helps.
Hi Tea Lover - This is quite common if you have a new hotcup or kettle. Fill it 3/4 with water and boil. Once boiled, add 2 tablespoons of bicarbonate of soda and leave to stand overnight. Discard the water then re-boil a couple of times to remove any bicarbonate soda residue.
Hi Debz, the 1.5-liter water tank can hold enough water for 5 to 7 cups, making it ideal for preparing a full round of hot drinks.
Hi Charlie, please note that our hot cups release steam when dispensing boiling water. This is a normal part of the process and ensures the water is at the ideal temperature for your use.
