About this product
The Habitat Extendable Wide Shelving Unit gives you a flexible way to divide open-plan spaces or display your books, plants and treasured bits along a wall. It's a stand-alone unit with 12 fixed shelves, so there's plenty of room to organise and show off what matters to you. The white wood-effect finish has visible grain that adds character without overwhelming your room. You can extend it later if your storage needs grow, making it adaptable to how you live.
The shelves are built with sturdy wood-effect materials and protective coating that stands up to everyday knocks and marks. Each shelf holds up to 30kg, which is sturdy enough to hold books, storage boxes, or decorative displays. It works as a room divider to separate living and dining areas, or sits against a wall to keep everything tidy and within reach. Assembly requires two people, and because it's over 60cm tall, you'll need to fix it securely to the wall to prevent tipping. Wall fixings aren't included, these are sold separately. There's a one-year guarantee from the manufacturer.

Easy assembly with preparation
With full preparation including measuring and orientation of all wooden parts before the build … the assembly was straight forwards. You only need a tape measure and two screwdrivers and a small mallet to assemble the unit. Definitely would recommend two people for assembly

Fabulous Shelves
This shelves are great. It took quite a bit of time to get it together but we got there in the end and we are very pleased with the end result. We bought the shelves to show off our ever expanding Lego collection and it does that excellently.

Storage unit
Looks much better than I thought it would. A little tricky to work out some of the building instructions, but overall not too complicated and I left my husband to do this. Two people needed to lift it once built. Loads of room on the shelving. We are very happy with the overall look. Good sturdy piece of furniture. Great value for money.

Great quality and asthetics
Straight forward to put together and reasonably quick. About an hour. Is very heavy so you need two people ideally to lift it in the standing up position as you build it flat on the ground . Very pleased with the look and sturdy nature.

I made it work.
So I bought this as I have an odd sized alcove and no desire to drill in to the wall. This item nearly broke me! The instructions are okay. Items are labelled, albeit a little bit difficult to see on the edges sometimes. It's very heavy! unfortunately two of the pieces were damaged. I turned them around so not visible. One of the pieces had a measuring issue, it was about 3mm too large and therefore there's a small gap on one side. So, it's not the best manufactured item but it's serviceable as my step dad came and saved the day.

Excellent Customer Service
The unit is cumbersome and heavy. I managed to get it together but at the last hurdle, the joint and corner broke and crumbled. Like previous reviews mentioned, you need a room to assemble the various sections and join them together, and the worst is, you need two persons to lift it up and position it. I can’t fault Argos though as they offered to replace the broken part, and when I declined they offered an exchange, but I opted for refund and that came within hours, not days, of it being collected. They offered a goodwill gesture for my troubles of having to spend yet another day of repackaging it after disassembly, but that has yet to materialise.

Looks nice but very hard to put together!
It's hard to know how to review this because it looks pretty nice now that it's put together (especially for the price we paid) and it's a lovely large bookshelf, but it is truly the hardest piece of flat pack we've ever put together. My husband and I spent ages doing it and annoyingly one of the holes wasn't made quite right which we noticed towards the end, but we were too frustrated to deal with requesting a new part. It's also VERY heavy as others have said so make sure to put it together very near where you plan to place it.

It's looking great and it's a very solid build. It's VERY heavy so be prepared. The instructions are very confusing and the elements are marked on the thin side, so plan ahead carefully.

After checking with our supplier, they have advised for the Habitat Extendable Wide Shelving Unit - White: ''The unit cannot be set up as two individual units.
When overlapped at 90 degrees corner, the width of the lower section is 84.8cm, and the width of the tall section is 122cm.''

"The backing is part of the construction, please do not remove it." (So, no you cannot build it without its back panel).
