About this product
The Seagate Expansion Plus Desktop drive is the answer when you need masses of storage space without any fuss. With a huge 8TB capacity, you can consolidate years of photos, videos, music files, and work documents into one central location, or free up precious space on your computer's internal drive to keep everything running smoothly. Just plug it in via USB 3.0 (USB 2.0 also supported) and start dragging and dropping files immediately - no software installation needed to get started.
What sets the Plus version apart is the downloadable Seagate Dashboard software, which gives you flexible backup options to protect your digital life. Schedule automatic backups to run in the background, or trigger them on-demand whenever suits you. The drive is designed to sit on your desk rather than travel, and requires mains power via the included adapter. It comes with a 2-year manufacturer's guarantee for peace of mind.

Not worth it thanks to AI Fraud
Cost £149.99 when I bought it in January 2026. It was already overpriced then, its even worse now. AI industry has caused ridiculous price gouging in all hardware. This is a platter-based Hard Disk Drive, with everything you would expect from that, for good and bad. It is horrifying that the price is so bad for such antiquated technology thanks to AI fraud. The 8TB has been more reliable than a 28TB Seagate Expansion Plus I bought directly from Seagate. Read/write speeds as you would expect for an external HDD. Comes pre-formatted with web wrapper to register for manufacturer warranty. Runs quietly but you do still notice it if you're not used to spinning platters these days, and heat dissipation is fine Ultimately, does the job I need of archival space, but never worth it at this cost.

Great Storage Backup
I purchased the 7TB HDD. Not really much I can say other than it works exactly as it should, simple, just plug it in and away you go and great to have plenty of storage .

Simple design, no frills
Quite simply, it's a hard drive. No set up, no fuss - just plug in and away you go. There's a tiny blinking led to show you it's on and thankfully not distracting. A very compact and discreet design. It might be an 'old' spinning disc but still far more cost effective for such a large capacity and £toTB ratio than an equivalent SSD. Downsides? .Prices are currently on the rise throughout the industry for both storage and memory. .They decided to use a Micro B Socket on the unit. Don't know if this is a cost saving measure (probably) but a standard USB 3 or C socket would have been welcome but not a deal breaker. Cable is of course included. . Noise. It's not really 'loud' but depending how quiet your room is you'll probably hear it in action. Careful placement would be considered if you don't want it to distract you .

Very happy
Yet to test reliability, but had it a month and good value, speedy and all the space I'll need. Pretty compact given it's a desktop version.

Hello David.
After checking with our supplier, they have advised for Seagate Expansion Plus 8TB Desktop Hard Drive.
Yes, the Seagate Expansion Plus 8TB Desktop Hard Drive works with the PS5, but only for storing PS5 games and directly playing PS4 games. It cannot run PS5 games directly; they must be moved back to the internal console storage to be played.
Key Details:
Storage Only: You can store PS5 games on this drive to free up internal space, but they must be transferred to the SSD to play.
PS4 Compatibility: You can play PS4 games directly from this drive.
Connection: Must be connected directly to the USB port on the back of the PS5 console (not a USB hub).
Format: The PS5 will require you to format the drive as "Extended Storage" before use.
Note: As an HDD, this drive will not provide the same speed as the internal SSD.
Thank you for using Q & A.
Hello Ned,
I can advise the following for the Seagate Expansion Plus 8TB Desktop Hard Drive:
It does use a standard HDD SATA connection inside, you could open it up and take out the HDD to expand internal storage but this will void the warranty.

Hello Zoe,
I can advise the following for the Seagate Expansion Plus 8TB Desktop Hard Drive:
Yes, however read and write will be lower then a M.2 drive on the motherboard so load times may increase because of it.
Thanks for using Q & A.
You will require a USB Type-C to Micro-B 3.1 Gen2 Cable. You can get one for around 7 pounds from Amazon, although other stockists are available. Just not Argos, as they understand very little about items that they sell....

Hi Shaz,
This Seagate Expansion Plus 8TB Desktop Hard Drive is a traditional hard drive, containing spinning platters and a reader head (or heads), rather than a solid-state drive.
Thank you for using Q&A.
No it's HHD, SSD is still very expensive I've not seen a 8TD SSD.
