The Garmin DriveSmart 76 brings voice-activated navigation to a crisp 7inch touchscreen, covering 45 European countries with lifetime map updates. Not a bad device despite a few strange quirks.
As with any Sat Nav, whether it be phone apps such as Google Maps, Waze, the TomTom app or this one, there are good points and bad points with all of them, and none of them are perfect. The screen size of the DriveSmart 76 is brilliant with a very responsive and clear screen. Navigation can be a bit hit and miss when providing the route and it only gives a choice of 2 routes. Under Navigation Settings, under Calculation Mode, only 2 options are given 'Faster Time' and 'Straight Line'. Straight Line just shows a route in a straight line from your start point to the end point, so if you're prepared to drive through someone's house and cross fields, it is pretty much useless. Even though there are live traffic reports, and the Garmin may know there are closed roads ahead and tells you so by showing it in the Live Traffic panel on the right of the screen, it bizarrely still chooses a route that would try and take you through a closed road. This can be tweaked though by tapping on the direction bar along the top of the screen to see the 'Turns list'. Scroll down to the road that says 'Closed', tap it to show the map at that location, then tap the menu icon on the top left of the screen and choose 'Avoid', and you will then be re-routed past the closed road. Why it doesn't do this automatically is baffling. The message here is always check and view the routes it chooses. The best feature I think on the Garmin is the 'Edit Route' function. Here you can use 'Shape Route' which lets you add shaping points on the map to change the direction of a route. There is 'Detour by Distance' which will avoid the next 0.5 mile, the next 1 mile, the next 2 miles, the next 5 miles or the next 10 miles. This is really useful if you encounter a problem up ahead such as a closed section of motorway due to an accident. There's also a 'Detour by Road' which will let you choose a road up ahead that you may not want to use for some reason. All in all, not a bad device even if it does have a few strange quirks.

Bought this a few days ago, and am so pleased with the size. Have not had a chance to discover all of the features. But very happy. So pleased I went for a bigger size. And so excited to explore the many features. And being able to make the screen bigger or smaller. Looking forward to linking my phone and a hands free call.

Really pleased with this very useful kit, especially with the voice control and Alexa included. So good to just ask Alexa to give you a route to your destination, play music or give you the latest traffic or road closures.

This does have a Speed limit Indicator, which displays speed limits for most major roads and school zone speed limit too. It also gives speed camera warnings as well.
Its "Speed limit exceeded" feature displays a red border on the speed limit icon if you exceed the posted speed limit for the current road.
