Well made, sturdy, cuts fine and easy to clean
I needed a long reach electric saw and preferred a mains cable-powered one for the extra grunt and because I didn't want batteries conking out at the top of a ladder. I often buy Spear and Jackson tools as in my experience they are well put together and do a good job. This pole saw was powerful, and felt like it would do the job before I even switched it on. Yes, it's a bit heavy when fully extended but you should really be expecting that and I'm not sure why people moan about that when they're reviewing a pole saw! It works well and does what it was made for extremely competently. The chainsaw is powerful, there's no wobble in the extending pole, the chain oil tank doesn't leak all down your arms and adjusting the tension of the high quality Oregon chain is a breeze. Finally, you only need to remove one large know to clean the whole saw. Last but not least, the chainsaw itself simply unplugs from the pole and can be stored away safely. If you want an electric pole saw then use this one, it's great π

Excellent. Used it to cut down a large over grown fir tree. Saw was easy to set up, and use. Had to buy some oil for it as there was non included. Would recommend the saw.

The product worked really well and cut through
I now wish I had bought two of them is there any more left at the price I paid. It cut through large branches with ease. Also having a 3 year warranty was pleasing since I will only use now and again whereas I use my hedge cutters much more often

The answer from staff member Justine contains very good advice. However the figures are incorrect. The amount of blade that protrudes from the housing is 175mm or 7inches long. Therefore the width for cutiing is only 5 inch thick. In practice it is less that this as the housing foils the uncut branch so you would have to have a perfect cutting angle to achieve a 5 inch cut. This saw copes comfortably with 3 inch thick branches and to cut thicker you usually need to have a couple of goes at it.
Hi Webbles,
A basic guide is that the saw should be at least 2 inches (5cm) longer than the thickness of whatever branch or tree is being cut so if the branch is 8 inches thick, the guide bar (or blade) should be at least 10 inches long. The chain bar length for this pole saw is 20cm (or 7.8 inches) so will be suitable for branches that are about 6 inches (15cm).
Thanks for using Q&A,
I have one of these and would say the above answer is very questionable. It is not a hedge trimmer, if you used it in this way then it would be very dangerous as bits of hedge would be flying everywhere. The chain would most likely get stuck in the branches and then there is a danger of the chain breaking or coming off its mounting and hitting you in the face. I would definitely not use to trim a hedge.
Hi jango,
Yes, the Spear & Jackson 20cm Electric Extendable Pole Saw - 750W can be used on a hedge.
