About this product
This door gives your pet all the independence he needs. Easy to install, the solid aluminium frame has reinforced corners for heavy use or for multiple pet homes. The flexible, soft flap is tinted and adjustable. A magnetic flap closure and pile weather stripping along the sides of the flap opening form a weather-resistant seal. A closing panel is included for improved weather-resistance or to control your pet's access to the pet door.

Our dog kept barging through the normal sized plastic cat flap and breaking it. We’ve had a few months with an open hole in the door so whilst this cat flap isn’t completely wind/rain proof it is still a stark improvement. The softer material also means the dog is less likely to smash it. There is a plastic cover to block that we had to use during the recent storm but it’s quite difficult due to the mouldings on our door. The dog was a bit unsure about it at first because of the dark coloured plastic but he started going in and out of it in a few days. The cat has been unfazed.

I brought this a month ago and so happy we did , we didn’t go for cheaper one as found them not as strong, this one is just perfect and very strong I would recommend

Very effective pet door
Did take a while for our Cockerpoo to get the hang of it as he found the magnetic closure a little hard to push against with his nose (couldn’t get him to use his paw instead!). But with lots of treats and encouragement he finally got the hang of it - and it’s made life a lot easier not having to keep opening doors! Unlike some other reviewers, our pet door is on the outside door of a porch area (with another flap on the inner door) so if it’s very windy we’re not bothered if it slightly pushes open allowing airflow. However, I can imagine that would prove a little annoying if the pet door is close to where you sit etc. Other option would be to have the slightly larger door which would be less likely to push open in the wind as obviously it’s a heavier door with longer magnetic strip! We have both - the larger on the inner door, and the smaller on the outside (due to panelling restriction) but ideally you’d probably want it the other way around! The sliding panel to close it off is a great feature so you can block it for security, or just if you don’t want your pet to go through for whatever reason (weather - muddy paws?!). The only slight criticisms would be a) not sure why they used frosted plastic rather than clear as personally think this is the reason my dog was unsure about using it - he couldn’t see where he was going as obscured his view inside! And b) shame it only comes in white - would’ve been nice to have a wood effect as my external door is wood. However, might be possible to paint the white plastic - just so it doesn’t look so bright and ugly from the outside! But all in all - definitely worth it and dog loves his freedom!

Constantly blows open. Don’t buy this product
I had bought a fairly cheap pet flap over the summer for about £30. Decided when winter came I needed a better one so bought this. It’s so much worse. Constantly blows open with freezing cold air just gushing into the house. So disappointed with my purchase this product is not good!

The supplier has advised of the following about the PetSafe Staywell Aluminium Pet Door - Medium.
The cut outs are different for these:
Aluminium - 230 x 349 mm
Plastic - 241 x 360 mm
The frame of the Aluminium door (276mm x 397mm) is bigger and could fit over the larger cut out of the existing door (241mm x 360mm), but you may have to change the screw holes. It can be done with some DIY. They also recommend that you silicone around the frame of the door, once fitted, for a better seal.

After checking with our supplier, they have advised for the PetSafe Staywell Aluminium Pet Door - Medium: none of our dog flaps are for glass installation.
This is because the pressure points on the corners of the dog flap can cause the glass to crack and possibly shatter.

The manual for the PetSafe Staywell Aluminium Pet Door - Medium only gives instructions to install this pet door vertically so it is likely not possible to do install the door horizontally.

Our supplier says "This door can be fitted in a wall.
We do not make any tunnel extensions for model of door.
If you want to put it through a wall you could cement round the inside of the tunnel or use wood to fashion a tunnel."
