So good I bought it twice
I was pleased to find that Argos still sells a basic audio-only portable player with no network connectivity (so no updates required, ever, and no reliance on a third-party server) and no fancy features which I would never use. The player is incredibly easy to use. I just plugged in via the supplied USB-C cable into a Windows computer, it appeared as a removable drive onto which I just copied a load of audio files, then off I went! Piece of cake, and no special software or driver needed. The display is very clear, but it's the old-fashioned, very slow-reacting type of LCD, which means the track titles have to scroll across the screen very slowly or they would be illegible. This slow scrolling is sometimes annoying when You need to wait for the end of the filename to identify which chapter or section you're on, but it's a minor thing. The manual says the player is capable of playing MP3 and WMA files, but I found that it is also perfectly happy with M4A format files downloaded from a well-known online streaming service, and PCM WAV files. My guess is that it's just using a standard off-the-shelf decoder chip internally, so would be capable of playing a lot of different undocumented formats, so it's worth giving it a try with whatever files you have. All of the files appear in one long list, sorted alphabetically, ignoring any folder structure you create, so finding specific tracks could be difficult if you're using the player for music, but as I mainly use it for audiobooks and podcasts this isn't too much of a problem for me. The display backlight is quite bright and the brightness is not adjustable, but it does go out after a few seconds of playback so won't be a problem using the player at night. The manual says the player will run continuously for around 8 hours on a full charge, but I found it will actually run for a lot longer than this - at least double that time, probably more. The player can also be used as normal while plugged in and charging. The player has a Sleep timer, which can be set between 10 minutes and 2 hours, in 10-minute increments. I found the user interface fairly intuitive, and didn't have to refer to the manual, but it has some weirdness. For example, it's possible to shuttle forwards by holding down the skip forwards button, but it's impossible to shuttle backwards because holding down the skip backwards button invokes the menu. The only feature I feel it's lacking is an SD card slot. As well as expanding the internal 8GB of storage, this would be a more convenient way of getting files onto the player. Also I would have preferred a device that runs on a standard AAA or AA user-replaceable battery, rather than a non-replaceable built-in rechargeable battery, but such is the way of the world unfortunately. Overall this is a very good little player, and is exactly what I needed! If the manufacturers could just add an SD card slot, a facility to use a standard replaceable battery, and a way to navigate folders, it would be perfect.

Recommend bush 8gb music player
Really like 8gb music player. Easy to discover on otg android. Copy&paste to main folders and sub-folders. Lasts a while on playback half volume. Very quick charge type c. Equaliser works great on music & audiobook. The display is small but easy readable. Settings for lots of options. I do regret not buying this years ago as it is my goto music player.I carry this about in a small case. Unfortunately it hasn't a FM radio or Bluetooth but that hasn't affected me. Gave 4⭐ for display size, hope next version is better than way.

Great features at a reasonable price,
This is my third or fourth purchase of the same product but that's because I forget and treat it roughly. I get great battery life from one charge and use it for talking books which I play while cycling. I've had many different types of MP3 so I can comment to say that this one has the best, i.e., easiest to operate controls; and the display is visible even in the bright day sun. I'd recommend it highly for value for money and ease of use! 10 out of 10!

Yes, it will play them in order as long as the files are named sequentially (e.g., Symphony1_Movement1, Symphony1_Movement2, etc.). The player sorts tracks alphanumerically, so using numbered prefixes or clear naming ensures the correct playback sequence.
