Because it's worth it
I decided to try one with a higher thread count than normal to see if there was any noticeable difference. Well there was as it is quite a bit warmer than the cheaper thin ones I had purchased previously, all through the winter this and a 4.5 tog duvet kept me warm through the night. Worth the extra money.

I have spoken to our supplier who have advised as follows:
The box size of the Habitat 200TC Easycare Cotton Flat Sheet is 28 cm , so once you put the item on a 20 cm mattress the excess fabric of 8 cm will go under the mattress.
It is workable but I am not sure you will get a perfect fitting on 20 cm mattress.
