After years of using a pod machine and getting to a stage where it was costing a fortune for capsules, I decided it was time to move up a stage and making coffee from scratch. I had limited “real estate” - just where I’d had my old *espresso machine, pod holder and frother- so I couldn’t really consider anything too big, especially as I needed to accommodate a decent grinder, so the decision was really Bambino or Bambino Plus. Checking reviews and speaking with a pal who’d bought one a couple of years ago, I decided that a Plus was worth the additional cash and that’s where I ended up. It’s a really good little machine out of the box and with a couple of important additions it’s a great one. You’ll read a lot about the portafilter and its plastic insert and the tamper, which is “ok”, but once you replace these, you have a really great machine that produces coffee that’s way better than you’ll get at your local, high street shop. Learning to dial in your brew is something you’ll need to do come what may but as for the rest of it, it’s really straightforward to use.

Simple 3 bottom machine
2nd machine in 5 months wouldn’t recommend as the thermal wand does not heat milk after a few weeks Sage have replaced first machine and offered to repair 2nd machine, changed filter, kept clean, always cleaning milk wand, just unreliable

Bambino Plus is Great
Very happy with the Bambino Plus but extremely unhappy about the Baratza Encore ESP Pro that I bought to use with it. It is grossly miscalibrated and Baratza support make promises when chased but do not fix the problem in over a month and I hear nothing. Not what I expected from Baratza. The Bambino Plus is an easy to use machine which I fully recommend to anyone wanting a basic espresso machine.

Oh my goodness!
Bought about 3 weeks ago. Replacing a Lavazza pod machine, so I guess I was starting from a low base, but the coffee it makes is like a completely different drink. It’s a simple pleasure to use, well constructed and reliable. The steamer works very nicely, in spite of making some odd noises and cleans itself afterwards. It’s actually worth trying different beans, grinds and roasts because you can really taste the difference. Absolutely thrilled with it.

Excellent machine
Excellent machine. I use it everyday and once you get the hang of the process it’s a joy. Initially, I had problems with putting the portafilter in correctly. However, useful online instructions showed how to do this. So now it is a smooth operation. I would definitely recommend this to all proper coffee lovers.

Nice machine
Really good little machine that paired with a good grinder produces great results. Only slight niggles for me are the very small drip tray requiring constant emptying and the way it slides about so much on the worktop, I’ll have to look into some better grippy pads on the bottom but really it should do a little better in this regard even though it is pretty lightweight.

You need to buy a separate grinder. The Sage grinder is superb, I own both.
