About this product
The Habitat Nomad Ladder Shelf gives you open storage that keeps books, plants and display pieces organised without boxing in your room. It's a leaning design with a metal frame and wood-effect finish, so it leans against the wall and takes up less floor space than a traditional bookcase. There are five fixed shelves, that's plenty of room for spreading out your collection of novels, photo frames, or decorative bits. The oak-effect finish adds warmth to living rooms or home offices. It's tall and slim, so it fits into corners or alongside furniture where bulkier units won't go.
The metal framework keeps the structure stable while the wood-effect shelves support up to 20kg across the unit. Each shelf's fixed in place, no adjusting needed, just load them up as you like. Because it's over 60cm tall, you'll need to attach it to the wall with suitable fixings to prevent tipping, that's really important for stability and safety. Self-assembly's required, and two people are recommended to put it together. There's a one-year guarantee from the manufacturer, so you're covered if anything goes wrong.

Great shelving, difficult assembly
Firstly, delivery service was dire, it taking three attempts. The first time they said my road was too narrow for their truck (it isn’t), second time they blamed, severe weather (it was a bright, calm day). Fortunately it was third time lucky, but two weeks late. Customer service gave me a £25 Argos voucher and refunded delivery charge, so it is worth complying (politely). The unit itself is great, but as other reviewers point out, assembly is very frustrating as the pre-drilled holes aren’t aligned correctly. Presumably someone in the factory messed up the entire batch and they’ve just shipped them out regardless. Again, it’s worth complaining to Argos as having read through reviews compensation has been paid out.

Problems
The holes for the screws did not line up with the frame. There where insufficient screws for the shelving. I had 3 less than needed

Very Good Value, Let Down By A Small Design Flaw
I ordered two of these shelving units and am very impressed at how good the quality of them really is. I thought they would be the usual over priced and cheaply made flat pack rubbish that you can find in any Home Bargains store. But they are really sturdy, the wooden shelves are very high quality and they are really easy to assemble. Unfortunately, the only negative, as many of the reviews have already mentioned, is that the holes for the shelves are not aligned, but it was relatively easy to correct that with a drill and some elbow grease. I would happily have given 5 stars, but they lose a star for that as they really should have only taken 15 mins to assemble but the hassle of the screw holes doubled the time. But overall a very good product that I would highly recommend.

The height from floor to the underside of the bottom shelf is 78mm. The thickness of the bottom shelf is 18mm.

Thanks for your query about the Nomad 5 Shelf Leaning Shelving Unit - Oak Effect.
As this is a 5 shelf unit, the 3rd shelf is the middle one. This one is 56cm x 27.2cm in size. It's set approximately 80cm from the floor. if you include the frame as well, it'd be 60cm wide x 27cm deep at this point.
The full area taken up by unit, if you include the legs at the base is 60cm x 42cm.
