It's a bread bin. If you find yourself in need of a receptacle for storing bread, this will do it. It's the only thing it will do really. You could keep other things in it I suppose, as long as they fit, but mainly bread or bread like items such as muffins or crumpets.

Bought this recently and very pleased. Although cheapest it is strong and don’t know how it could be made and marketed at the price.
One small point. The picture on the website seems to show that it is a white but I was surprised when I unpacked it that it was a chromium, shiny finish. However, it is attractive and fits in with my decor.
