Surprisingly impressive for the price! Excellent!
Had it for two weeks so far and super impressed. The brightness, motion-handling, pin sharp pixels, accurate colour reproduction and contrast/black levels are incredible for the price. Was a tad sceptical of deviating from my usual Samsung TVs, but I knew TCL offered a more competitive feature set for a lower or comparable price. And this premium QLED set really does deliver. Also, I was worried that the built in Google TV interface would be too slow to stream 4K content, but it’s super snappy and near identical to my AppleTV 4K box in terms of performance (not exactly, but close enough). The supplied remote control is also voice enabled with a built in microphone! Handy when you want to voice search content quickly. The quality of its built in streamer has allowed me to save cash by not buying another streaming device for content. So bravo TCL for ensuring a proper streaming experience is provided at no additional cost. This is also compatible with Google Home devices, so if you have a Google Doorbell or cameras, you can receive notifications and video feeds via this Google software interface. But double check on camera compatibility, as I have not tested this yet. On the note on contrast, this tv is a MVA panel which provides much better handling of contrast (deeper blacks and brighter whites). For me, it’s close to OLED but without the OLED price tag. It gets pretty bright in my south facing room and I regularly keep the brightness down to 60-70 out of 100. But if you plan to do a lot of daytime watching in a bright room, you may want to check out real (not the cheap) Mini-LED backlit TVs, which may perform better in terms of brightness. These however creep into the £700+ mark, be warned. In regards to its built in speakers, they are nothing special. They will barely fill a medium sized room for a movie night, but may be sufficient for casual watching. Bass is pretty thin and this is to no surprise. I believe if you choose the same model but a larger screen size, TCL then include a built in 2.1 speaker system by a premium HiFi brand, so do double check this. As the 43” does not include this for obvious cost-saving reasons. I have mine connected to a soundbar, so this is a non-issue anyway. In summary, if you want decent mid-range QLED TV with deep black levels, natural colour reproduction and great motion-handling (no weird blurring etc), consider this TV. It also handles gaming very well (I have it connected to my gaming PC, too). I am now a TCL convert! Bravo!
