Dreadful Design
I bought this iron as a replacement for my previous steam generator iron. Whilst it does the job of actually ironing, the design is truly awful. The iron does not clip to the base for ease of transport. The steam cannot be turned on and left on, you have to hold the button, which can be painful when your hand/finger is being steamed at the same time as your clothes.The base of the iron is too small and falls over regularly. The steam cord gets very hot. The cord cannot be stowed away neatly, the clip on the side is worse than useless. The rubber stops on the base all fell off within a day or two, never to be seen again. Nowhere to store the electrical cord. I would recommend reviewing some of your competitors design ideas and incorporating them into your design. Shame, because it actually irons quite well.

Having checked the manual it states: You may use the iron with tap-water, but if you live in a hard water area, you should use distilled water (not chemically descaled or softened water). If you buy distilled water, check that it’s suitable for use in irons.

Having checked the instructions for the Russell Hobbs Series 1 Steam Generator Iron 24420:
1. Set the temperature control to S or higher – otherwise the steam might condense on the soleplate,
giving you water instead of steam.
2. Squeeze the steam trigger to produce steam, release it to stop.
NOTE: When you first start your steam station and pull the trigger for steam ironing, there will be a
delay as your steam station pumps water from the reservoir to prime the system. This is normal
and may take 20-30 seconds. This will also happen after refilling the reservoir.
STEAM READY LIGHT
The steam ready light will flash while the iron is heating up. Wait until the steam ready light stops flashing before trying to steam iron. Note that operating the steam trigger will have no effect until the steam ready light stops flashing.

The supplier has advised the following for the Russell Hobbs Series 1 Steam Generator Iron 24420:
All the steam holes are functional. They’re arranged in a sort of pointed U-shape, following the shape of the edge of the iron. There are also various grooves and indents as well but these are not steam holes, some of them will aid the flow of the steam across the plate of the iron though.
