Did the job - be sure to stir the tin.
Did the job nicely but bit thin to apply until I stirred the paint better. Final result is good.

Cracked paint when dry
I used this radiator paint as per its instructions on multiple radiators in my home, that were primed. The paint dried with thin cracks all over and there were areas where the paint was flaking off. Would not recommend!

Hello Jane,
The supplier has advised the following for the Johnstone's Radiator Satin Paint 750ml - White:
“I can tell you the Johnstones radiator paint isn't an rust inhibitor, they would need to clean off the rust and use a metal primer specific. ”
Thanks for using Q&A.
Hello Julie,
The supplier has advised the following for the Johnstone's Radiator Satin Paint 750ml - White:
Appliances of this type usually come prefinished. This is usually achieved by a factory spray finish. They are very smooth, and adhesion is often an issue. To make any of our products stick to a surface like this would require a lot of preparation, sanding and priming. Because of this I wouldn’t be able to recommend any of our products for this application. Even if the product did adhere the finish wouldn’t be durable enough and would most likely fail.
(Also we’d have to add that removing or trying to remove the original finish would very likely invalidate the item’s guarantee as it’d count as an alteration, specifically that the removal of the finish could put the item at greater risk of damage or rusting).
Thank you for using Q&A.
Hello Jo jo,
After checking with our supplier, they have advised for the Johnstone's Radiator Satin Paint 750ml - White: This product is not designed to withstand the heat from an infrared panel. Our products are designed to withstand temperatures of around 80 degrees centigrade which is around the temperature of a residential radiator.
A more specialized paint would be required to achieve a long-lasting finish on this type of substrate.
An automotive spray paint may have a higher temperature rating, or a paint designed for multi fuel log burners.
Hope this helps.
Thank you for using Q & A.
Hi Maz
This is a matter of personal choice - many of our customers have used this paint straight on and are pleased with the results - for extra protection against bare or rusted areas the following primer paint would be an advantage
