Hi Alex.
Culinare MagiCan Can Opener:
The opener can open any kind of cans. However, some cans do have overly deep lips and can be angled, so it would be dependent on the particular can.
Thank you for using Q&A.
Its fairly stiff to turn at first but eases with use
Hi,
Thanks for your query about the Culinare MagiCan Can Opener.
We're unable to offer direct advice as to its suitability. We'd advise that you speak with a qualified medical professional on that aspect.
Thanks for using Q&A.
No, it is quite stiff to operate.
Yes, it's very easy to use with not much pressure needed at all.
Hi Gerry,
This can opener is made in China.
Hope this helps
Thanks for using Q and A.
Ive found that an electric can opener is the best for fray bentos cans.
I have same problem with Fray Bentos pies , tried loads of supposedly Magic openers none worked ,so dont waste your money buying any, i ended up having to use the good old fashioned metal opener but because Ive got Arthritis in my hands i used an oven glove to put my hand in and help give a bit of leverage worked a treat, good luck.
Hi Lynne,
The Fray Bentos pie tins have a tapered edge and due to this, the Culinare MagiCan cutting blade is not able to reach the tin and make the cut to open it.
Thanks for using Q&A,
I haven't tried it on the fray bentos pies. I do know they are notoriously difficult to open. All I can tell you is that this is the best opener I have ever had, and if it doesn't do the job, then I don't think any opener will.
I would imagine it is not a great tool for that application. The opener cuts the side, not the top of the can. It therefore reduces the height of the can so I would imagine a mess in your oven from gravy overspill during cooking!
Very easy to use, but not suitable for cans containing liquids...
I have had one before and am left handed. It opens from the top, so can be used with either hand.
Hi Canute,
This is for right handed use.
Thanks for using Argos Q&A
Hello there,
Having spoken to our supplier they have advised as follows.
The reason for this is because Baxters, who manufacture Fray Bentos, use tins that are very traditional and have been part of the product since its invention. However over years the design of tin openers by many manufacturers has changed, yet the tin used for Fray Bentos has not. The tins Baxters use are tapered inwards at the sides so that they stack easily and don’t topple over as they would if the sides were straight. Due to this tapered edge, the Culinare Magican cutting blade is not able to reach the tin and make the cut to open it.
Baxters recommend the following can openers for use on their product.
Brabantia Essential Line Opener
Oxo Good Grip Opener
Thanks for using Argos Q&A.
Hi it's not very good I'm afraid it keeps slipping off the rim of the tin .
I've bought a £5.one from m&s and the magican is in the drawer .
However don't be put off I might be just heavy handed and no patience. Ernie T.
The magiCan cuts on the outside of the tin so no inner lid to drain.
Hello ALS
I would advise that this Culinare MagiCan Can Opener does indeed take the lid completely off and does not leave a jagged edge.
Thank you for using Argos Q&A.
