Excellent easy to use

Exactly what we needed
This is a great bit of kit as far as me and my 12 year old go (absolute begginers). Is a bit weighty for a long slog on lures but can switch to resting it so no real complaints. Caught Mackerel with the shrimp lure first time out. Would definitely recommend

better than expected
The rod is perfectly capable and casts a fair distance with smaller weights [I use 3-4 ounces normally]. Tip is sensitive enough and reel seating better than most cheap rods. The reel comes loaded with mono but not knowing breaking strain or diameter, will sell on and use old reel with braid. Stronger and less likely to drag when tide pulls. You get 3 feather type rigs and a small weight, so you can use for mackeral from the off. I paid £50 for the set and at this price, it compares better to rods bought off ebay. I would not pay the full £80 normal price but consider this a competent bit of kit, so I bought 3 in total. The reels may be ok but I need a gear ratio of over 5/1 or my arms ache reeling in 3 rods all day. Very limited information given on website. Comes banded together and in a cardboard box, with tackle loose [rigs still in packs]. Good enough to avoid damage.

Good rod and reel
Bought for my grandson for beach but too big for him, He had some good casts but too heavy. So going to use myself and buy him a lighter rig.

Unbelievable value
Absolutely remarkable value…just wanted a simple set up to target the Sea Bass on the Isle of Wight … adding and bit of bait (peeler crab) and some circle hooks had a fantastic time…the rod and reel held up extremely well…great fun.

Hello Hen,
I can advise the following for the Matt Hayes Adventure Beachcaster Rod, Reel & Accessories:
It's 15lb line.
Thanks for using Q & A.
Thank you for your question. This is a 4.2m rod in 3 sections, so will fit in a rod bag of 1.4m or longer.
Hello Anthony,
The supplier has advised the following for the Matt Hayes Adventure Beachcaster Rod, Reel & Accessories:
"The rod is 4.2m in 3 pieces and would therefore require a rod bag of 1.5m or longer."
I hope this helps.
Thank you for using Q&A.
Thank you for your question.
Yes, the reel comes loaded with line and ready to use.
This rod can be used for both fishing on the sea bed, and for fishing with feathers.
Thank you for your enquiry. It isn't possible to give a maximum weight of fish that a rod will handle as this is dependent upon the skill of the angler and the line strength used. However, we can confidently say that this rod will handle most large species of fish that are common to UK inshore waters. The rating of a rod determines the weight that it can cast out, to include the weight itself and any bait. In this case the rod performs at its best when casting weights from 100g up to a maximum of 250g.
I caught a 35lb conger eel off of Saunton Sands, Devon in 1996, using a 14ft float rod and 12lb mainline. Took me three hours to get it in, but the point is that landing a fish is only partly down to the gear. It's mostly down to the skill of the angler. I go specimen carp fishing (40lb+) on a mill pond in Lincolnshire occasionally, using 6lb mainline and 2-4lb hooklink on a feeder rod. Again, less of the horsing it in, more down to working the fish until it's tired out and bringing it in carefully. With that in mind, using this kit as is I would be confident in taking it on a trophy trip for some LARGE predators.
Hi Riley
I have spoken to the supplier about this for you.
They say rod's are categorised by the max weight of bait you can load - in this case it is 100-250g. They say this will be sufficient for fish found in UK in shore waters - they also say you will find further advice on fishing forums
I hope this helps
Thanks for using Argos Q & A
I think it has a 15lb line so easy 12lb fish. You still need to buy stronger line 60-70lb for a shock leader otherwise all your tackle might end up at the bottom of the sea.
Thank you for your enquiry.
The term 'test curve' is generally reserved for carp and specimen rods. With beachcaster rods we refer to casting weight which indicates the minimum and maximum weight range that the rod can cast at maximum distance with maximum control. The optimum loading capacity for the rod in this set will range between 100 and 250 grams.
Thank you for your enquiry. The reel handle can be re-positioned for use by either a left or right handed person.
