A solid but pricey beginner coffee machine with a
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] A couple of months ago, we received this coffee machine to test in our home office. Before this, we had purchased a DeLonghi coffee machine, which we used as a direct comparison for this review. Our first impression of the new machine was that it is well-constructed, sleek, and stylish, and it is of good quality. The machine is quite bulky compared to the previous coffee machines we've owned, which is a drawback for anyone with a small kitchen like ours. The machine is made out of good-quality materials. However, it's worth noting that both the steam wand and the coffee handle are showing signs of wear after just a month of use. Setting it up right out of the box was straightforward—almost plug-and-play. However, making your first cup of coffee took a bit more figuring out. One issue we encountered immediately was that the coffee puck was filling up with too much ground coffee, making it difficult to attach the coffee handle to the machine. There was no obvious explanation for this, but after some research, we realised the coffee was being ground too coarsely. We adjusted the setting, and since then, we haven't faced that problem again. The water tank capacity is quite good and easy to fill up, although it's slightly annoying that it is located at the back of the machine, which means I have to pull the machine away from the wall each morning to fill it. All the buttons on the machine are self-explanatory, but there isn't much scope for customisation. For example, I'm not sure if there's a way to adjust the temperature of the espresso. Compared to our other coffee machine, this one heats up much more slowly, and the steam wand takes longer to activate, which is slightly frustrating when you want to make a drink between meetings. There's quite a steep learning curve with this machine when it comes to creating a nice-tasting beverage, especially regarding the steam wand. It took us a couple of weeks of watching YouTube videos before we mastered creating well-textured milk for our lattes. Once you become accustomed to it, the machine is straightforward to use and clean. However, there are a few aspects I would like to see improved. I often need to change the coffee beans because my partner drinks decaffeinated coffee. At first glance, it seems simple to switch the coffee beans due to the removable holder at the top of the machine. In reality, though, I end up spending a good five minutes picking beans out of the grinder by hand. A thing we noticed with daily use is that the drip tray has a low capacity and a minimal threshold for warning. The red tab rises when it's time to empty the tray, but it can be easily overlooked, leading to spills on the kitchen counter. This machine is almost twice the price of our previous model, but it's not twice as good or has more features, even though I prefer it to the old one. If we didn't already own a coffee machine, this is a good option for a first coffee maker. Overall, I like the machine and recommend it as a beginner coffee machine. However, be prepared for a bit of a learning curve before you can make barista-quality beverages consistently.

Perfect starter coffee machine
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Breville VCF186 is a solid choice for anyone looking to elevate their home coffee game to café-level quality — but be prepared for a bit of a learning curve. At first glance, it can be a little intimidating. With lots of components, settings, and accessories, it’s not the most beginner-friendly machine out of the box. The manual could be more helpful, so expect to spend some time getting to grips with the setup and process. Grinding can be a bit messy, especially if you're new. That said, once you’ve found your rhythm, it quickly becomes a joy to use. The machine itself feels sturdy and well-built, with a clean stainless-steel design that looks great on any countertop. It includes all the essentials: portafilter, steam wand, cup warmer, and a pressure gauge — giving you full control over your espresso shots. The results are impressive: rich crema, balanced flavor, and consistently great coffee once you’ve dialed in the grind and tamp. One minor issue to watch for: the water tank can leak if not slotted back in properly, so make sure it clicks in securely after each refill. Pros: ✅ Café-quality espresso at home ✅ Sleek and durable design ✅ Full manual control ✅ Includes steam wand for lattes and cappuccinos Cons: ⚠️ Water tank can leak if not fitted properly Verdict: Once you get past the initial learning stage, the Breville VCF186 becomes a reliable and rewarding companion for your coffee routine. A fantastic entry point into the world of home espresso — just be ready to get your hands a little dirty along the way.

Not worth the price tag
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Breville VCF186 Barista Classic Espresso Machine - Silver There are some mixed feelings around this coffee machine that are hard to ignore in order to create an honest feedback. I love it because you can grind basically every sort of coffee beans. I don't like the wasting of coffee in order to find the write settings adjustment and achieve the best taste and texture each time when you change the coffee. I wasted couple of shots before I achieve satisfying texture and taste. I'm trying not to compare this coffee machine with my previous one but it's really hard not to do it. I find it very quiet, grinding is also rather quiet. The tray collecting water is quite annoying to clean, or even just to empty the water you need to remove the cleaning bits in advance. The section under the tools shouldn't be collecting water at all, should of been kept separate in order to use it as a storage. I'm loving my long espresso in the morning but I can't really achieve what I used to get with Sage. The bean grinder creates unnecessary mess when you choose to grind double dose of coffee. This can be adjusted but it will affect the coffee texture and taste and there is no in-between. You can't get your perfect espresso as you never get the same coffee each time despite you use the same settings each time. Once it's okay, once isn't enough. It's so frustrating. The portafilter for single coffee dose needs way too much coffee, unlike Sage. I feel like I'm constantly feeding the beast.... Overall the machine works okay for 1 month experience with it. The design could of be more stylish and appealing. I can't really justify the asking price. For such price, you should expect zero hassle, no struggles at all and enjoy your espresso coffee.

A Great At Home Barista Experience
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've been testing the Breville VCF186 Barista Classic, and overall, I'm genuinely impressed. It’s a solid, user-friendly espresso machine that brings café-quality coffee into your kitchen with minimal learning curve. I’ve tried the single shot, double shot, and steam wand—all performed really well. The espresso is rich with a smooth crema, and the steam wand froths milk beautifully for lattes and cappuccinos. It boasts a sleek, professional design and feels sturdy on the counter. The controls are intuitive, and cleaning is easy thanks to the removable drip tray and filter basket. While it’s not the cheapest machine out there, it offers great value for money. You get consistently good espresso, quality milk frothing, and the satisfaction of being your own barista at home.

Fantastic
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is an amazing machine, I have had others and this just doesn't compare. The ability to go from bean to cup in less than minutes and make a delicious barista coffee is spot on. I'm not sure on how well the water tank will hold up as it feels flimsy but the process is simple and the coffee is great. Following the easy instructions the cleaning system is simple also. 10/10 would recommend

Great household coffee machine
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This machine is quick and easy to use. Makes a great tasting coffee. Can be a little messy with the coffee grinder, overfills. Love that it is an all in one machine, milk frother is fab, takes a little time to heat up. Would be good if this pre-heated when machine is turned on. Easy to clean, however instructions vague on easy clean button. Overall, love this machine, would recommend it to anyone. Just knocked a star off for the points mentioned.
