There isn't a drainer in the bottom. It is just a tray, but you can take it out to clean it if necessary.

To fit the Habitat Wire Dishdrainer - Wood and Black the diameter of the plate should less than 42cm and the thickness should less than 2cm.

Hello Brini - this drainer has upto 10 spaces for plates etc - as for dishes standing up straight, well this does rather depend on the dish type - dishes with a flat rim would do but bowl type dishes do naturally tend to fall forwards. Hope this helps.
