The Brother MFC-J6540DWE printer uses the LC422VAL Ink Cartridges (Black & Colour).

After checking with our supplier, they have advised for the Brother LC3217BK Ink Cartridge - Black: Unfortunately not, for the DCPJ1140 the compatible inks are the LC421 range.

I recently purchased a brother printer from Argos which was based on the fact that I could get the 3000 page ink cartridge from you for the price you stated. The standard ink that came with the printer has not even lasted a month, I was about to open the new pack of ink and saw that it only covers 550 A4 pages. Obviously, I thought a mistake had been made and you had sent me the wrong size, then saw these messages. Now I'm left with a printer that's going to cost me a fortune in ink. Having known this I would never have purchased the ink nor the printer! What can be done about this?
One for Trading Standards I think. The LC3217 cartridge pack is the standard cartridge pack, but Argos are quoting the printing outputs of the LC3219XL pack. 'XL' relating to Extra Large. e.g 3000 pages instead of the 550pages of the Standard pack.
I can understand mistakes, but a member of Argos staff a year ago saying it will be corrected, and it still isn't, is disgusting.

Yet, despite an Argos Staff Member's assurance, the wildly inaccurate, misleading and FALSE claims are still advertised 11 months later. How, when and where does anyone EVER add up the individual Page Count (which is with 5% text coverage, not photo printing Full Cover) for the INDIVIDUAL colour cartridges to get a bloated over-exaggerated Total? Disgraceful!
The website still states 3000 pages but this is incorrect.... it seems common practice now for companies to advertise ink packs as XL when in fact they are standard.
I advise everyone looking to purchase ink to check the page details carefully and avoid miss leading products.
Inspect the photo as well. Many descriptions on inks miss lead people into thinking they are all XL... MOST ink packs sold on the high street are XL black and STANDARD colour.
When buying ink, get the model number for the ink off the printer or off the internet. XL and Standard will both have similar model numbers but will be different.
When you know the model number for the XL inks, check the photo and look at the model numbers listed.
Don't get taken in by this grossly mistaken advertising!
