Meet the first Autistic Barbie doll! Barbie partnered with the Autistic Self Advocacy Network (ASAN) to design a doll that represents and celebrates this community.
Barbie doll wears a lavender and white pinstriped dress with a relaxed, comfortable fit. The ruffle hem adds an extra pop of personality to her look!
As autism can impact fine motor skills, she wears her hair in a loose style accented by noise-canceling headphones. More than just an accessory, they help relax her when she's sensitive to stimuli!
She comes with a fidget spinner that really works, too. From hanging with friends to having a picnic in the park or going to the movies, she loves having the spinner handy when she's out and about!

Autastic Doll
Great example of a doll, only downside is the tablet & fidget do not stay on very well & can fall off easy leading to loss.

Love Autistic Barbie
I bought this Barbie after seeing posts about it online and waiting for it to come back into stock. I don't often buy dolls, but as an autistic woman I felt that my inner child needed this. There have been varied reactions to this Barbie, but my reaction is positive. I find it represents autism quite well, even if you or your autistic family member do not use these particular items, they are all representative of an autistic trait. Auditory sensitivities (headphones), stimming (fidget spin), social and communication difficulties (aac device), sensory issues (loose dress). As an autistic person I don't use all these items myself, but I still find them representative of my autism traits. These are not 'stereotypes', they're some of the diagnostic criteria. This Barbie actually subverts the most common stereotypes of autism, by simply being a non-white adult woman. More specific to the design of the doll, I like how she looks, her hair is nice, I like that I can bend her arms in different ways. I do wish her legs would bend though, it would have been nice to be able to sit her properly or even sit her in a wheelchair. Her shoes also fall off a lot. Her dress is very basic but one of the great things about Barbie is that you can put her in any outfit you want.
