Dyson Spot + Scrub Ai Self Empty Robot Vacuum Cleaner

Great design but has its flaws

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Dyson looks very smart, but is quite a large unit to keep somewhere out of the way. I positioned ours in the kitchen, a fairly central position in the house. I wanted it to clean the kitchen, hallway, cloakroom and office which is all hard flooring. The setup of the Dyson was fairly staightforward in mapping the floor layout with all the obstacles like tables, chairs, dog bed, etc. I set it to clean at 1am each morning, alternating between vacuuming and scrubbing the floor. The first couple of times it seemed to work well in vacuuming the floor and then washing it. However, on several occasions, the Dyson app would show that it completed the clean in very few minutes. The app shows where the Dyson had cleaned and it seemed very sporadic, missing out complete areas. This was the same for both vacuuming and washing. I even tested it during the daytime on a manual vacuum and it only did sporadic parts of the kitchen and office. When it did work well, the suction of the Dyson is very good and I particularly like the way it transfers the dry rubbish from the robot to the main docking station so you don't have to empty the robot every time it docks. The storage tanks for the clean and dirty water is great as they are dead easy to empty or refill. I like the way that the Dyson heats up the solution to make it easier to clean the floor rather than using cold water. Other occasions when I've watched the robot do a wash of the floors, it will start close to the docking station, but not finish washing the kitchen, then go to the office which is furthest point, then back to kitchen and go over what it has already done. It would then return to the docking station to clean rollers/recharge, then off again and clean what it's already done, but then not finish the rest of the kitchen. It did not follow any logic for a AI powered robot. One of the most enfuriating things was when trying to connect to the robot when it was docked and the app said it couldn't connect and to try again. I would then press the power button on the robot to then see if it would connect to the app, but no, it would go into a self clean cycle, which effectively stopped it from seeing my phone/app anyway.

Overall a good clean.

Had the product for just over a month now and overall I’m very happy with it. General cleaning is good, the hot fresh water used on the roller works well on floors and the app is pretty good. This replaced a similar product from another manufacturer which used rotating mop heads that didn’t use fresh water all the time. The Dyson gives a far superior finish although you do have to use the Dyson (or non foaming) solution or it will leave dirty streaks on the floor from the foaming and dirty water tank. If you’ve washed the floor with a mop and general floor cleaner it does cause a foaming issue on the next clean, whilst initially frustrating, I’m now using the Dyson cleaning solution to counteract this. The design is smart, as expected, and easy to empty the dust bin and fill/empty the water tanks. It doesn’t clean corners and edges particularly well, but not many robot vacuums do. One frustration is it does not tell you that the tank is nearly empty or full and if you don’t check and it is, it won’t complete the next clean. I have it scheduled overnight and it’s frustrating when it hasn’t cleaned because the one of the tanks was empty or needed emptying. The tanks are quite small. This is a minor frustration though and wouldn’t put me off buying again.

It’s ok, goes through stages of having to take the wet roller out because it says stuck, so clean put it back only for it to say it again. Would I recommend it properly not as it’s very expensive and does not clean overly well.

Stylish & quiet, but struggles in older homes

I love the design of this robot vacuum. It’s incredibly stylish, impressively quiet, and the bagless waste bin is a great feature that’s quick and easy to empty without the ongoing cost of replacement bags. That said, it hasn’t performed well in my home. I live in a 300-year-old cottage with a mixture of hardwood flooring and traditional quarry stone tiles. The AI seems to mistake the natural colour variations in the quarry tiles for dirt, repeatedly cleaning the same darker areas instead of moving on. This drains the battery to the point where it couldn’t even complete cleaning just three selected ground-floor rooms before returning to recharge. The navigation also feels quite chaotic rather than methodical, and when it encounters larger changes in floor level it tends to thump itself over them, which is surprisingly loud given how heavy the unit is. The companion app is another weak point. Even simple adjustments involve navigating through far too many menus, making it more frustrating to use than it needs to be. Overall, this is a beautifully designed, quiet robot vacuum that I think would suit a modern home with consistent flooring, such as carpets or uniform wooden floors. However, if you live in an older property with traditional or uneven flooring, the AI may struggle, and that significantly affects the overall experience.

Vaccum excellent, Mop not quite there yet.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Received this for a 4 weeks trial at home. Have been using various Dyson vacuums for 10 years and G1 Wash mop recently. Vaccum function : I love how I can wake up to clean floors each morning. I have a Labrador and I was surprised how well this picks up the dog’s hair. It did get stuck on carpet tassels in the first few days. But it had somehow resolve this on its own. We also took a few days to learn what obstacles the Robot cannot manage… like the legs of our dinning chairs . We resorted to putting them up on the table in the evening for the scheduled 6am clean. Cleaning function : Cleaning with 60deg water is a great add on, as I have natural stone floors which don’t take to detergents or having too much water well. At the end it cleans and dries the cleaning roller which is a great step up from my G1 Wash mop. Down side is whenever the robot goes over the grouts on the natural stone floors, the bumps causes it to spill some water on the floor. I do have to spot them and wipe it up. And it also finds it hard to spot stains . App is fairly easy to use. Took a few days to get used to it. Decided to download the app on IPad as well… bigger screen, easier to see and navigate. I set up the schedules and tasks (how wet I want the mop to be :-vacuum & mop or just vacuum) and let it do its job. Took a few days to learn where the obstacles are, and I set it up in the app as “avoid areas”. The LiDar tech is great at helping the robot recognise the different rooms in the house, especially when I want a targeted cleanup. It took time to “teach” the robot. After a week, we knew where the obstacles were, and put in a place a quick routine of putting away the clutter the evening before our early morning cleaning. After that, the robot ran on schedule without any problems. All in all, really helpful addition if you have a dog that sheds a lot. The price tag is a slight deterrent though.

Time Saving

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was sent this from Dyson for a trial of four weeks and I must say it arrived at the perfect time when the Grandchildren were visiting for two weeks! It was reasonably easy to set up once I managed to get the app to recognise the machine. On first run I was delighted with the result and embarrassed at how dirty my floors appeared to be considering they had been cleaned the day before. The vacuum feature was particularly good but the mopping and scrubbing was just adequate. It did make life considerably easier and was definitely time saving as we have all hard floors downstairs. I was pleased with the performance overall but on the downside it didn’t get into the corners and because it is so big (tall) it failed to get under some objects and into dome areas that I would have expected a robot to clean. It is also quite noisy when operating so I didn’t feel I could set it to clean first thing when everyone was still asleep. Overall because of the size of the docking station I don’t think I would consider purchasing this for myself but was generally pleased to be relieved of the task of cleaning the floors and would recommend for a daily clean but felt I had to do the corners and under chairs etc. afterwards.

Impressive Cleaning Ability

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been using the product for a few weeks and overall am very impressed with its performance despite hoping that future developments will add that final star. The product was easy to extract from its clever packing and was very easy to assemble using the guide provided, once having identified an appropriate location for the dock, given the space requirement. I have generously sized rooms and hallway, but locating the dock out of sight to visitors etc needed thought and I suspect that this product may not be suitable for smaller homes. Connecting to the internet was also straightforward and on the whole the app was easy to navigate apart from a small issue in using the edit function. The mapping exercise was also straightforward. On its first full clean the robot did seem to have a few problems finding its way on a couple of occasions, but I was really impressed how it learned from this experience and moved with confidence in follow up cleans. In terms of its cleaning abilities, I was actually amazed at the thoroughness and power of the vacuuming on the carpeted areas, leaving a better finish than my powerful, if somewhat elderly, regular vacuum cleaner. The bonus was that it manoeuvred under armchairs and heavy settees without my having to move these! I have quite a large hard floor area and again I was impressed by the robots cleaning ability especially as the floors appeared damp as opposed to wet and therefore dried very quickly. i noticed how it remained in certain spots to complete the scrubbing process and both tiled and hard floors looked spotlessly clean on completion. In the hallway it cleverly lifted the wet roller in order to thoroughly clean the soft doormat. The actual cleaning process seemed quite lengthy at over 2 hours and overall over 4 hours taking into account the need to recharge the battery to complete the clean. Hopefully battery run time is something that might be extended in future models. In conclusion, my main wish in terms of development would be to consider a product that could be used upstairs as will as downstairs without having to carry a heavy dock and robot from one floor to the other; that would definitely add my fifth star to the review.

Effortless, Powerful Cleaning

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Dyson Spot + Scrub AI has completely transformed my cleaning routine. Instead of spending time vacuuming every day, I simply set a schedule and let it get to work, and the results have been genuinely impressive. It has brought my carpets back to life, while the choice of modes makes it easy to switch between a quick everyday clean and a more powerful boost when needed. It also performs brilliantly on hard floors, delivering an effective wet clean, and its clever roller design reaches right up to the edges for a thorough finish. I did experience one issue with the left wheel occasionally sticking, which meant I had to reset the machine manually. Aside from that, it has been convenient, versatile and incredibly effective. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to make cleaning easier and achieve excellent results with minimal effort.

Great for Rugs - not so for hard floors

Maybe I read the description incorrectly but I thought this would also scrub marks in my hard floors as well as the rugs. I have Dyson Wash G1 Wet Hard Floor Cleaner and a Dyson V15 for the rugs and I believed this would belike a 2 in 1 but unfortuanely it does not spot clean nor scrub any marks on the hard floors just the rugs. The mapping of the rooms and edge to edge cleaning is great along with the battery life but then the docking unit is very large so storing it out of site might be an issue for some.
