A good expresso machine
I replaced my old Barista expresso machine with the Barista Express™ Impress about four weeks ago and have used it every day. There are things I love about my new machine and one particular thing I find frustrating! The ginding and tamper facilty is great. So much simpler and cleaner than my old maching. My pet dislike is the range of the pressure gage. From my perspective, the more I use the coffee machine, the more I feel the pressure dial is not fit for purpose and basically pointless. Under a full pressure test the gage only reaches 12 o'clock on the dial. It doesn’t indicate or help me in any way to identify whether the expresso coffee is under or over extracted. I have to look at the flow and make my own judgement. When I raised this problem, I was told it is a new feature with all the new machines! With my old machine the pressure gage indictated how my coffee was being extracted. I miss that feature. My summary is that it's a good machine and I do manage to get a good expresso coffee after a little trial and error with the grind size. Thus my rating of 4 stars.

Great machine, go for it!
I've been making espressos with this machine daily for about 3 weeks now. Here's a list of things I love about it: - ease of use: once you've read the instructions / watched an intro video (or even without having done those things), it's easy to make good coffee. you go rom left to right on the Sage - dose, tamp, pull shot, steam milk. it's intuitive and easy to get the hang of - great coffee: I love making and drinking the coffee from this machine (yes, I do use freshly roasted beans and that is essential) - built in tamping: less mess, fewer gadgets to have around the house - minimal use of space on my counter: I was expecting the machine to be bigger than it was (it's not as deep as the description says it is!), which is great because I have a 38cm deep counter - it's well built and looks fantastic Things I haven't got the hang of yet: - latte art: it's hard to steam the milk to cafe standard. I have put in some practice but obviously need more - the amount of cleaning: every time you make coffee, there's an awful lot of cleaning. remove puck, purge head, clean and purge steam wand, drain water from drip tray (there's a lot of water in it after every shot) - dialling in new coffee beans: I guess this will come with practice, too, but sometimes it takes me 3/4 shots to dial in a new bean, which is sad because my beans are expensive Overall, however, I am super pleased with the machine, and I think that practice will make perfect in the end. I had toyed with the idea of going with the touchscreen model (which would have resolved steaming issues), but I think that's overkill for what I like to make, which is basically a flat white every time. It's not worth the price difference, in my opinion.

I'm having fun getting use to my new machine in fact I'm becoming quite skilled. There are many features i really like for instance the airtight lid for the beans, and good size hopper. The secret tray for the bits. The only thing i find a problem is the hot water spout is directly over the steam wand and it does seem to splatter at times when cleaning the wand thus scolding drips. This change of design is questionable?
