Great scanner and a great purchase

Quality flatbed scanner at a budget price
High quality scans, good clarity, high resolution. Hard to justify buying a more expensive scanner for occasional use. The only issue I had was getting it to work with my Ubuntu desktop PC but, after much experimentation and expert advice, it's working just fine. Cannon needs to do more to make installation a simpler process for Linux-based operating systems. In use, it's pretty quick to scan but a little noisier than a previous scanner I owned. Also, the scanner I purchased had all the hallmarks of a previously returned item. That said it looked spotless and works so no problem (perhaps that's why Argos were selling it at a very competitive price?). Works from a single USB connection, i.e. no separate mains electricity cable - a bonus.

Great scanner that's always available
I bought this in Feb '26. It's great for scanning photos and offers as much resolution as most people will ever need. It's a bit plasticky compared to the 400 but it is readily available at Argos and unless you are attempting to scan physical film few people will ever need the extra resolution of the 400. It comes with a USB cable with a standard USB Type A end that goes in to your laptop/computer. I was using this on a Mac and it worked out of the box in seconds. I just plugged it in and the inbuilt image capture app on Mac OSX detected in straight away. I didn't attempt to use any of the canon software as I don't intend on ever using the buttons on the front.

Hopefully does the job
Purchased two weeks ago, haven't used it yet. Appreciate flat design doesn't take up space.

Not compatible with my new laptop
Unfortunately the Lide 300 is not compatible with my new laptop which is a Samsung Galaxy book 4 Edge Snapdragon X 256 GB UFS. I telephoned Canon and they confirmed the laptop's processor is not compatible. Luckily, I had not used the Lide 300 and Argos was able to refund.

Mac Compatability - Not an Issue
Purchased this scanner to work with a MacBook Pro, using the latest operating system. Was a little apprehensive about buying, due to previous reviews about Mac compatability. Didn't touch any of the supplied information/CD, but plugged in and use Image Capture from the Mac Operating system. Worked perfectly - zero problems whatsoever. So, if you are a Mac User, have no concerns "Image Capture" will be your best friend!

Great scanner
Managed to scan all of my parent’s photo albums (67 of them!) and it’s done a good job! My only gripe is that for such a large space, it can only scan 2 photos (but it can fit 4) to allow auto cropping to be achieved efficiently. Bit of a shame which added time to the whole process but nevertheless, it’s done the job.

Hello Sheila,
The supplier has advised the following for the Canon CanoScan LiDE 300 Flatbed Scanner:
“ Yes, you can set the location of the scanning to be to an external hard drive.
The software provided with the scanner allows to add more scanned pages before finalising the document, it will still require 1 scan at a time; there are multi-page scanners available higher up in the range. ”
Thanks for using Q & A.
Hello there.
The supplier has advised the following for the Canon CanoScan LiDE 300 Flatbed Scanner.
The Canon CanoScan LiDE 300 Flatbed Scanner cannot be directly connected to the Samsung Galaxy S9. The scanner requires a PC or laptop running the Canon software to function and manage the scanned images. The scanner is powered via USB and must be connected to a computer or laptop to scan and store images. Therefore, it is not compatible with devices like the Samsung Galaxy S9 that do not have a USB port.
