I wanted a good BD / DVD UHD player - this was it
I have had the player for about 3 weeks. It is just a player but with media via USB and ethernet (no WIFI ), and no streaming apps - perfect I have only used the BD / DVD player (not photos viewing etc). I have found it easy to use and connect. Easy to navigate features, and really plays out of the box - I did investigate some finer points, but not really necessary. Glad I followed reviews and avoided other overblown / over-functioned cheaper offerings with behaviour issues.

No other choice for me
Choice of product: after reviewing brands available this Sony 4k UHD BLU-RAY PLAYER, was the only choice in town for me, though costing more than others that have WiFi. (So no streaming apps, but those players with apps cannot run the updated apps requirements of 2025 / 2026 or later). Have had it a week and working perfectly. I checked at Sony website, there was no software update required at the time of writing this review - either the ethernet or USB ports would allow this though.

I purchased to replace a Sony dvps 635d which I'd had for decades.... The blu ray player is excellent I've only tried cds and Dvd's so far but the sound and picture difference is amazing being pure digital now....... The only thing that goes against the player is the chassis is very poor all plastic... A very light piece of kit.... On the upside it also plays sacd discs... I've just played 10 summoners tales and it sounds awesome........ 7/10😎

I brought this to replace the Panasonic ub820 which I returned Simple interface doesn't handle optic out but does hdmi pass through The remote is a major let down small but easy to use but feels a little cheap The picture is very nice HDR support on 4k compatible TV works very well Quick to boot up and shut down and loads discs quickly The blu upscale is great makes the blurays pop on my hisense TV supports a network media servers (haven't used it) ethernet only for upgrades and media server The box is quite small fits under my TV using it's stand the buttons on the front are plastic feels a little cheap but functional It doesn't support apps like netflix so it's main rival is the Panasonic ub450 but price will put a few people off but if your going to go 4k discs and have a modest setup you won't be disappointed

Superb product, the only problem is, Dolby vision is NOT automatic… and, Sony could unlock the region via software….(same for the dolby vision issue)

I had the previous Blu-ray Sony model (pre 4KUHD) for 10 years and did not hesitate for a second in choosing Sony again when ready to upgrade. My choice has been 100% justified.
