The Miele Guard S1 Junior is a proper bagged cylinder vacuum that packs 890 watts of power into a compact design. At 5.6kg, it's light enough to carry around without any fuss, and the 8.5m cord gives you plenty of reach before you need to switch sockets. It's built to work across all floor types with a universal floorhead that adjusts easily, and it captures 99.99% of dust with the AirClean filter, which is brilliant if anyone in the house has allergies or asthma. The 3.5l capacity means you won't be changing bags constantly, and there's an indicator to let you know when it's full.
It comes with a crevice nozzle, upholstery nozzle, dusting brush, and a combination floor nozzle, so you can tackle soft furnishings, rugs and even curtains. The 6 stage rotary selector lets you adjust suction to suit what you're cleaning, and the telescopic chrome extension tubes give you extra reach for high spots. The 1.8m hose stretches up to 2m, and the foot-operated cord rewind makes packing away easy. It runs at 76 decibels, so it's quieter than a lot of cylinder vacuums. Old one was great, new one should be too.
Our old Miele of about 30 years (yes!) finally gave up the ghost, so we just thought to go with the same, after reviewing a few others. This model is much lighter due to the engine size restrictions, but it's powerful enough for our carpets and hard floor. Even at full power, it can stick to the carpet too much, so extra power isn't an issue. Only a couple of months now, but everything great so far. Only gripe is that the hose connector to the body doesn't swivel like the old one.

I have finally returned to a Miele vacuum cleaner and it didn’t disappoint. As always it does what it says on the tin. Compact and efficient.
