Decent dumbbells
This is the second set of these dumbbells I have purchased. Found that I wanted a little more weight for some exercises after a while so they must be working well. Having a second set also mean I can two sets ready with differing weights. Well made and durable. Some comments seen about the locking nuts but I've not had a problem and they do need to be able to screw and unscrew if you want to change weights.

Does what it needs to do
The cast iron weights are good; there are reasonable divisions of weight for adjustment of totlal eight, it is easy to change the weights, the bar is a good length. The equipment was provided with a "box" that was taped together, having been re-packaged from an uncareful previous opening. Two of the cast iron weights have slight chippings.

They are designed to be used with the bar, but could be used individually if you are safe with them. They are 0.5, 1.25,2.5kgs and you get 4 of each.

Ive been using this set for a couple of years now. Its possible to fit most but not all of the provided weights onto one bar. If you leave off two of the 0.5 kg weights, you have a 17.5 kg dumbbell, but there is no safety margin if the locks work loose, which can happen. Its best to leave off all four 0.5 kg weights giving you a 16.5 kg max with one dumbbell. After using these for several months, I opted to get the add-on set of four 5kg weights so I could make two 20kg dumbells.

ABOUT THE ITEM - Opti Cast Iron Dumbbell Set - 20kg 7040764. The item has rubber grips on the METAL spin locks which come loose during use, and fall out. In short the spin lock has rubber grips which stop the spin locks coming loose but are NOT GLUED IN and come loose during use. I super glued mine in, so I am not concerned about myself. But this is a worrying defect for Argos. The manufacturer could remedy this easily.
_ NO, this has a METAL spin lock! I have now checked this by scraping the paint, and using a powerful magnet to check this is metal.
In short, I asked Argos whether this had a METAL spin lock because when I first encountered a similar weightlifting item on Argos I was PUT OFF BY THE PLASTIC LOOKING SPINLOCK. I only went ahead because I was prepared to risk it being plastic, but hoped the spin lock was METAL.
ARGOS you should now correct this statement by stating the spin locks are METAL.
