In my experience it's never straight forward putting up a curtain pole or rail! It needed to be extended a fair bit and wouldn't stay when moved to put up so taped the joins together to keep the length accurate. (tape removed once on brackets) It eventually went up OK, there's a slight curve in the wall which the pole tolerated and still up a few weeks in! It looks fine.

The pole is extendable. There are 3 sections. For up to 1.1m use pole A only, for between 1.1m and 2m use pole A and B and for between 2-3m use pole B and 2 pole A's.

The curtain rail has two or three brackets, depending on the length. Up to 1.1m, is supplied with 2 brackets, over 1.1mm, 3.
The brackets have small screws in the back, that tighten in to the rod, that will hold it in place and stop it being lengthened or shortened by mistake.
