Decent Product
I bought this as a small Christmas gift and it is quite durable yet it is also very small in terms of how far out it reaches considering that you would be using a hdmi port for screens such as a monitor or tv. the resolution isnt the best but it does have decent transmission if you were to use it for something such as an iphone or tablet. over all the product shields itself reasonably well but again its just very small and you may have issues when connecting devices.

It will work only if the TCL 501 has a USB-C port that supports DisplayPort Alternate Mode (DP-Alt Mode).
This adapter is for USB-C compatible devices and needs DP-Alt Mode support to connect to a TV or projector.

You are correct, that this is the other way around, it should be bi-directional but this isn't tested as it's intended to go USB-C to HDMI.
