Yes, it would be possible to record onto this. Exactly how many programmes would depend on the device, format, and resolution you'd be recording them in. Also, for some devices, it is necessary to also format the drive before use. If your TV has a compatible USB socket, or the recording box you have does if the your TV doesn't, you should be able to use it though I cannot give an exact answer without knowing the brand and model of the TV.
