Braun Silk-epil 5 5-230 Wet & Dry Cordless Epilator

A little discomfort for a lot of convenience!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I'd always wanted to try an epilator but was always a bit wary of spending the money without knowing how well they work...and my comfort level tbh 🫢 I was so happy to get the opportunity to review one for influenster, so I hope my review can be of use. I am especially interested in the whole not having to shave for several weeks as I'm so extremely lazy (as you can tell!) 😅 and feel this could be great to use prior to going in to hospital (which I will be in the next few weeks!) or holidays etc. I used it only on dry skin, apparently using it on damp - e.g in the shower is supposed to help with any discomfort - however I am yet to try this method out. I found the discomfort comparable to either laser hair removal or tattooing, however as you can tell from my photos I am very used to the latter 😂. I found it certainly tolerable but I'd still recommend doing it in sections to save over irritating the skin in one session...just from my experience anyway. I definitely recommend if you do have a reasonable pain tolerance and are a bit ADHD regarding actual repeated shaving, I'd much rather use this device as opposed to shaving several times in the same time span. Also the little light is immensely useful! Thank you!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] About seven years ago, I lasered all of my hair , but as you know with laser there are still some hair remaining even after 10 or 12 sessions. Getting a wax every month seems too much, so I tend to resort to epilators. I can do it at home, whenever I want, it’s cheaper and lasts long enough. This little guys is nice. It has loads of attachments, but I think this smooth one works best, on all body parts from underarms to legs. It also has 2 speed/power setting. I think the first one is better, as the second one a bit too fast, and might break the hair instead of pulling it out. Pain-wise, regular exfoliation and using it at the end of a shower routine works best for me and makes almost painless (but this also depends on where you are in your cycle) A really annoying thing though, is the charger. It’s European, so you need to have an adapter if you are in the UK.

I feel smooooth!

Bought this as a replacement for a much older model, and I love it - it's really quiet and very smooth to use. Oh, and the little trimmer makes it easy to quickly tidy up the bikini line 😀

Leaves a smooth finish

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have tested both the shaving and epilator attachments. The shaver is very good and could easily replace using a razor to shave legs, but has pulled at some hairs tearing the pore. Be careful and go slow. The epilator was a very horrible sensation at first, but again if you go slowly and do a patch of skin at a time, it leaves a very smooth finish. I used the shaving attachment a couple of days before the epilator to trim my leg hair (specifically grown out to test this!) and then the epilator on the tiny regrowth. The device itself is relatively simple to use with two speeds and a light to make it easier to see stray hairs. I would have liked there to be more of a grip, especially when using it in the shower.

Great kit for a beginner

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have always been wary of trying an epilator as so many reviews talk about how painful it is! This model is a really good introduction to using an epilator - the instructions are very in depth, and there’s a shaving head and a beginners head that are interchangeable and help you gradually get used to using it. It is painful at first, but you get used to it, and honestly the results are so much better than shaving. It cuts down on bumps, my legs especially are a lot smoother since I’ve been using this. It’s quieter than I expected and I love that it works both wet and dry, as that makes it so easy to use during a bath or shower. I was also really impressed by all the extras that come with it, especially the slim stick shaver which is perfect for facial hair and shaping eyebrows. All in all, such a great kit for a beginner!

Great set

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a great hair removing kit. I particularly love the eyebrow and bikini line precision trimmer. It has been used the most and gives great precise results. The epilator comes with a massage roller cap and a shaver & trimmer attachment. It grabs even the shortest of hairs to give up to a month of hair free skin. It ca be used wet or dry an is not too noisy. The man epilator has a charger but the smaller eyebrow/bikini line shaver uses batteries.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I highly recommend this product,it comes with everything you need to keep your skin trimmed and smooth.The quality is amazing and being able to use it in the shower is a bonus.It is rechargeable and the battery lasts a long time before having to recharge.So great to take with you anywhere. I was a little scared to use the epilator at first but the pain wasn't bad at all,if you have any tattoos this is nothing compared.The worst parts were behind the knee and the ankle for me. Using it in the shower helps if you have a lower pain threshold.And always try to keep your skin tight to get the best results. It is an epilator and shaver so if you can't epilate you can always just shave.But the massage roller cap really helps for a gentler epilation and isn't as bad as I first thought and of course epilation smoothness lasts longer than shaving. For me it did not leave a rash or redness which was great. It also comes with a mini precision trimmer which comes with different attachments and works really well for your eyebrows and bikini area. This is now my go to when I'm starting to get a little hairy,but in all fairness hair growth took about 3/4 weeks to grow back.No more shaving every day which is a breath of fresh air for me.

EPILATOR DID NOT WORK FOR ME!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I must say was very anxious before, I used this product. Packaging was lovely and design very girlie, however I had not shaved for four weeks leaving ample hair to be taken but unfortunately it did not take much hair out and the pain did not register . I tried both heads, I have fair fine hair and this maybe why the braun epilator did not work too well. It was very quiet when using the epillator, but unfortunately did not work for me, maybe if I had darker thicker hair this product would work better

Smooth legs

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is the second epilator I have used and this one is far better. It’s lightweight and easy to hold and easily handles awkward places like the ankles, knees and underarms arms. It’s not too noisy either. I don’t find it very painful but this could be because I am used to using epilators. It pulls the hair out well but I did find I had to go over the same area a few times, it left my leg smooth and hair free. It did come with a European charger which isn’t an issue for me as I have one fitted in my bathroom but you may need to buy an adapter for it, it probably should come with a UK plug. The epilator is easy to clean, it also comes with a little brush to make sure you get all the hairs out and it comes with a storage bag so I can keep everything together. Overall it’s a great epilator and does a great job.

Great for hair removal

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I really liked the Braun Silk-epil 5 epilator. Itis easy to charge up and use and comes with a handy light so you can catch all the hairs in the area you are working on. I was expecting it to be a bit painful but it wasn't as bad as expected and I was able to easily manoeuvre it around my legs to ensure I removed all the hair. There were some areas with slightly longer hairs that required me to go over it a couple of times but it handled it well. This product also comes with a smaller, battery-operated unit for smaller areas and a bag to keep extra parts in. All in all this is a great product and I would recommend it.
