Flimsier than before, but still a good steamer
I had this same model many years ago. It's now much flimsier, for example the handles for the baskets are thinner so dont feel as safe when carrying a lot of weight. Also, condensation falls onto the plastic beneath the baskets so you have to keep emptying that, but that may well be a problem with many of these steamers. Maybe I'll try it without that plastic layer underneath. Overall pleased with the purchase.

This is my third purchase of this brand and same steamer as you can guess I use it a lot capacity is great it I have all the family round and ideal if it is just two of us my main reason with this brand and make is the fact you can top up water from the sides so no lifting the tiers to fill which I think is a fantastic safety feature

After checking with our supplier, they have advised for the Russell Hobbs 3 Tier Plastic Food Steamer 21140: ''Please be advised that descaling the steamer is recommended every 3 months following below steps:
1. Make about 600ml of descaling solution following the manufacturer’s instructions. Pour the solution into the base unit.
2. Fit the steam guide, drip tray, one steaming basket and the lid.
3. Steam for 20 minutes
4. Unplug the unit and allow it to cool completely.
5. Pour out the descaling solution.
6. Rinse the base unit and drip tray several times with cold water until all traces of descaler have been removed.
7. Wash all removable parts in warm soapy water or on the top rack of the dishwasher.''

Where possible our manufactures have removed polycarbonate (PC) plastic from their manufacturing sites. All manufacturing sites still producing PC products that come in to contact with food are required to demonstrate that they’re in full compliance with regulatory food contact requirements. This is supported with test certificates from specialised independent laboratories who test every plastic component that comes into contact with food to ensure that any BPA trace is below the legally accepted level before products are placed on the market. A product will not be sold until we hold test reports that demonstrate full compliance.

Yes, pasta can be cooked in it, however it will take very long time.
Eggs can be cooked in the food steamer.
Red meat can also be cooked, as there is nothing preventing you from doing that, but beef would probably yield poor results.
The manual advises on cooking times and recommended meat types for cooking and can be viewed in the "View document (PDF)" towards the bottom of the about this product section.
