Clear and secure
This was very easy to instal - I’ve kept it battery powered, and the battery is lasting well, but drilled fixings into my wall. The clarity of image and sound is excellent, with clear and timely notifications. The removal of the back to get the QR code is tricky, but once that’s done it’s very straightforward. The app allows me to monitor the battery level and plan accordingly too.

Good in Parts but Far from Perfect.
For some years we have used a video doorbell either from a well known competitor to Yale or a good but more minor company. The only reason to change to Yale was that we also use a Yale remote controlled door lock as our outside door is three flights or stairs down from our living level. The idea for changing to the Yale Doorbell camera was simply that when the bell rings I just need one page on one phone app to see who is at the door and release the lock to let them in. No more using one app to see who is there and then having to open a second app for the door lock. The Yale Door bell was quite easy to install and works as expected but I am not totally taken with the software and it was easier to check and delete recordings on our previous bell. A more major issue is the battery installation needs thinking about. Both our old bells had removable batteries so I could change to a new battery when needed in a few minutes and recharge the dead one in the house. That is impossible with the Yale as the battery is fixed inside a non openable case. The only way to charge is to take the complete bell in the house and recharge it via USB. This seems a particularly stupid design as when we are charging the battery we are back to visitors banging on the door and lose the security of the camera. The bell may be permanently connected to mains but if we could do that we would not need the battery door bell anyway. We have, in the past used a couple of makes of battery doorbell and they both had removable batteries and the ability to buy extra batteries so they could be quickly swapped. I think the fact that the battery in the Yale is not swappable is a major error in design from a company that should know better. A second minor issue which to start with seemed a good idea is that when the door bell is rung the Yale app effectively treats it the same as an incoming call so both my wife and I have both had a moment's confusion when the phone rings on whether there is someone at the door or the phone has a call. It is convenient to have one app for the doorbell and lock but if I just needed the doorbell I would go back to either the makes we have used inn the past. Both were much better and no more expensive than the Yale.
