The Yale Smart Outdoor Camera offers a 1080p HD image, wide 154 field of view, motion-triggered recordings, two-way audio talk, a bright spotlight that can be triggered when motion is detected and 6m colour night vision for clear footage that can be viewed 24/7 in the Yale Home app. Powered either with the integrated rechargeable battery or via permanent power supply (Solar Power Charger or Outdoor USB cable both sold separately). This camera can also be used indoors as a surveillance camera to meet all individual security requirements.

Good camera but poor motion detection
Easy to fit, easy to use app. Camera is good. Night vision is good. You can view live, talk to a person. Put in detection zones. But, the motion detection isn't that great. You have to be quite near the camera. Plus the fixing is a little flimsy. If the motion detection could be improved it would be a 5 star camera. If you have a short front garden, this camera would be brilliant.

Nothing in the prominent marketing says you can only use 2.4ghz router. Many routers in UK are 5ghz with capability of 2.4 as well, but unless you are a tech geek and/ or have the time, then adjusting your router just to suit this product is not worth the effort

OK, but not great
I installed this outdoor camera 2 weeks ago to provide coverage of my driveway. Positives - Setup was easy - Picture quality is fairly good - Live view via app is pretty quick to load Negatives - Slow responsiveness in motion activation means first few seconds after the camera is triggered are not recorded. For example, when the postman comes, the recording just shows them walking away from the property. This is a big shortcoming as could result in key moments being missed. - Delayed push notifications. There is often a delay of several seconds between the camera being triggered and receiving a push notification on phone. Although this doesn’t sound very long, it makes it harder to respond to situations in real time, such as using the 2 way intercom to speak to a delivery driver or using the alarm to scare off unwanted visitors. - Spotlight is not very bright. Black and white picture quality using infra red at night is fine, but additional lighting is needed for reasonable colour picture. Overall, it’s quite disappointing, as it could be an excellent product but is let down by its poor responsiveness. Given the price and the premium brand, I expected better. If used as part of the Yale Smart Alarm system, I think these issues may be lessened (communication between devices goes via Yale Hub, which might reduce delay in push notifications, and ability to add sensor to gate to trigger camera might be a reasonable workaround for the delay in camera activation), but as a standalone product it is what it is.

Clear and secure
This connected easily to my network and provides a clear image and sound. I’ve got it mains powered, and it was relatively simple to do by creating a new extension socket indoors. I’d love a little more manoeuvrability on the angle, but it captures what I need to and gives me peace of mind. The notifications are timely and easily managed via the app.

This depends on usage and activated features such as motion detection, spot light etc. A fully charged battery will provide approximately 4-6 months use.
