I have not yet had the opportunity to employ this drive as yet and it may be a while before I do. I basically purchased it because I need space and also due to the fact that it came at £16 less than another very well known online retailer! I will submit a more appropriate review when the drive is in use. I can not give a star rating as the above tells and I tried to give 1star for that reason. However, I appear to be declaring it 'poor' which is definitely not my intention. Seagate is a top tier company and hopefully my full review will bear that fact out.

PS5 games can be stored on the drive but must be transferred back to the console to play. You do not need to reinstall them.

PS4 games play straight from the external HDD. PS5 games need to be copied across to the internal or expanded SSD. Its still much quicker than downloading the game.

Format the Drive: First, plug your Seagate Game Drive into one of the USB ports on your PS5. Go to Settings > Storage > USB Extended Storage and select Format as USB Extended Storage1.
Save Media: Once formatted, you can save your screenshots and video clips. Go to the Media Gallery on your PS5 dashboard, select the media you want to transfer, and choose Copy to USB Drive1.

From the information we have available, I can confirm this Seagate 5TB Game Drive can be used to store PS5 games, but you cannot play the games from the drive. You do have to transfer back to the PS5 to play. But you can play PS4 games directly from the Seagate storage.
