Works even with an extension cord
I recently changed to a fibre connection which came into the house in a different area. Was dubious that this would work as it would be plugged directly into an extension cord but it did!

Hello Sean,

Thank you for using Q&A
Hi Dee,
As long as your PC supports wifi or ethernet connection, it can connect to the powerline devices.
Thanks for using Q&A.
Hello there,
The supplier has advised the following for the TP-Link AV1000 Powerline Starter Kit:
"The TL-PA7017 KIT is a solid upgrade and far better at resisting interference than older TalkTalk-supplied adapters. While no powerline device is completely immune, this kit offers a major improvement in reliability and performance in environments with LED lighting."
We can consider the below points of this Powerline KIT:
"Newer chipset (HomePlug AV2 standard):
These technologies better handle noise and adapt to changing line conditions (e.g., from switching power supplies in LED lights).
Higher Quality Components:
With improved internal shielding and better filtering to reduce the impact of noise introduced by devices like LED lights, power supplies, and dimmers."
Thank you for using Q and A.
Hello Gez.
After contacting our suppliers they have advised for the TP-Link AV1000 Powerline Starter Kit.
You can connect a Wi-Fi router (or Wi-Fi access point) to the Ethernet port of the TL-PA7017 at the far end, but only if the router is set up correctly—more on that below.
How TL-PA7017 Works
It’s a powerline kit with two units:
One plugs into a power socket near your main router and connects via Ethernet.
The other plugs into another power socket (e.g., upstairs or in the garden office) and provides Ethernet via the electrical wiring.
However, TL-PA7017 has no built-in Wi-Fi—it only gives you Ethernet.
Thank you for using Q&A.
Hello there,
After checking with our supplier, they have advised for the TP-Link AV1000 Powerline Starter Kit: The TP-Link TL-PA7017 KIT (Powerline Adapter Kit) typically does come with two Ethernet cables, one for each adapter.
In the box, you usually get:
2× TL-PA7017 Powerline Adapters
2× Ethernet (RJ45) cables
Quick installation guide
These Ethernet cables are used to connect each adapter to a device or router. However, it's always a good idea to check the product listing or packaging details if you're buying from a third-party seller, just in case accessories are missing.
Thank you for using Q&A.
Hello Sam,
The supplier has advised the following for the TP-Link AV1000 Powerline Starter Kit:
Yes, you can connect multiple extender units to a single adapter unit with the TP-Link TL-PA7017 KIT (or similar Powerline adapters). This is one of the key features of Powerline networks.
How it Works:
One main adapter connects to your router via Ethernet and plugs into a power socket (this is your "base" unit).
You can then plug additional compatible Powerline units (extenders) into other sockets around your home to expand your wired network via the electrical wiring.
All connected units will be part of the same Powerline network, sharing the connection from the base unit.
Thank you for using Q&A.
Hello there,
After checking with our supplier, they have advised for the TP-Link AV1000 Powerline Starter Kit: Yes, it can work across different ring circuits, as long as both circuits are connected to the same consumer unit (fuse box)
However, performance may be reduced, and in some cases, the connection may be unstable, depending on:
Quality of your home’s wiring
Distance between sockets
Electrical interference (from appliances, surge protectors, etc.)
Whether the two circuits are on the same phase (in rare cases homes have multiple phases)
Thank you for using Q&A
Hi Aiman,
Yes, you can connect the adapter unit to your router downstairs, then plug in the extender unit upstairs. Then connect your PC/laptop to the extender unit via ethernet cable.
Thanks for using Q&A.
