About this product
The Birlea Phoenix Ottoman Bed gives you a smart way to reclaim bedroom space without adding clutter. It's a single bed frame with an end-lift base that opens to reveal hidden storage underneath, so you can tuck away bedding, spare pillows, or out-of-season clothes. The solid rubberwood provides reliable support night after night, while the smooth melamine finish on the white side rails handles daily use with ease. A sprung slatted base adjusts naturally to your body, giving extra bounce and comfort where you need it most.
The gas pistons lift the base smoothly and hold it in place while you access the storage area, no awkward propping or heavy lifting required. The rubberwood headboard included adds a finished look and supports your pillows when you sit up to read or relax. It holds a maximum user weight of 110 kg and works with UK standard single mattresses up to 203 mm high. Arrives flat-packed with clear instructions, two people recommended for assembly. Comes with a manufacturer's one year guarantee for peace of mind.
The gas piston strength on this frame is 588 N. The maximum weight load for the Phoenix Ottoman frame is 350 kg and can support mattresses up to the weight of 45 kg. Please note the mattress needs to be on the bed for the pistons to work. Birlea beds are only suitable for a UK standard size mattress and the recommended maximum mattress height is 203 mm. Storage space dimensions: Headboard to centre divide - 119cm Footboard to centre divide - 74cm.

I bought it for myself. Me and my daughter assembled it. We took about three hours with every bit and piece and it was not difficult to do as we strictly follow instructions, which were also very clear. I love the navy colour which goes very well with the colour of my bedroom walls. Great storage but things need to be in bags or boxes. The frame for the mattress looks to be very supportive. I just didn't go for 5 stars because I haven't slept on it yet. I also ordered a new mattress, which hasn't been delivered yet. Hopefully very soon I'll be having a 5 star sleep :)

Bought this bed couple of weeks ago. Nice strong bed the only thing I would say is you got to be good with DIYs to get this fixed or at least you should know who can do this for you. I had two of my friends who helped me with this and it took us just over 3 hours to fix it.

Bed is durable with excellent build quality compared to other similarly priced frames. It is sturdy and worth the effort, assembly can take time and required two people due to heavy parts. Took a bit of time and pressure to get pistons mechanism to work. All good though, highly recommend

Missing parts and weak frame
There was lots of missing hardware. Once I had the right stuff, I discovered that the pistons are very weak. They will not hold up my average weight mattress. So if you want to lift it up, you need someone else holding it whilst you’re putting stuff under the bed. Birlea customer support is atrocious, and the bed arrived over a week late

As described but poor instructions
Overall happy with the purchase, the quality’s as expected and appears solid. Disappointed with the quality and accuracy of instructions and had to use the additional videos available for several steps. Took around 4 hours for 2 people to build due to the instructions issue and need to constantly double check we were using the right parts! Ottoman mechanism not as robust as our last bed but we only need for seasonal storage - wouldn’t recommend if you plan on accessing the storage area daily/weekly.

Good communication and fine quality bed
Delivery and communication was seamless. Overall build quality was fine, but the bed creaks a bit. Slats and the plastic bits used to attach them seem to be of poor quality and cheap. Also a lots of bits and pieces to assemble.

Great colour and loads of storage
A lot of parts and pieces so not for the faint hearted flatpacker! But came together reasonably well. Was worried hydrology were stuck as so stiff to begin with but loosening off nicely with a few goes.

Thanks for your response so just to be clear by outside do you mean the flat edge should face the wall ie the back of the bed and for the bottom the flat edge should be towards the bottom of the mattress or the other side? Thanks

For the Birlea Phoenix Ottoman Kingsize Wooden Bed Frame, the top bar pieces with the wood effect should be installed with the flat edge facing the outside. The arrow on the underside of the bar typically indicates the direction the piece should face, so aligning the arrow correctly should help ensure proper assembly.

The height to the top of the side rail on the Birlea Phoenix Kingsize Ottoman Wooden Bed Frame - Oak, is 35.5cm. I have popped a link below which shows what the inside of the storeage looks like. It is hard to say how much the bed will hold as this depends on the size of the items.
