About this product
One of the highest quality finishes in the range, the Phoenix wooden Ottoman bed provides both class and practicality, with an opening base that provides plenty of storage. Constructed from solid rubberwood, the oak option has MDF veneered side rails whereas the white option features MDF Melamine side rails. This frame has a sprung slatted base to give natural bounce, adjusting to where pressure is most exerted to provide greater comfort.
The gas piston strength on this frame is 588 N. The maximum weight load for the Phoenix Ottoman frame is 350 kg and can support mattresses up to the weight of 45 kg. Please note the mattress needs to be on the bed for the pistons to work. Birlea beds are only suitable for a UK standard size mattress and the recommended maximum mattress height is 203 mm. Lovely bed
Love the bed. Good sturdy bed easy to build. The delivery of this bed was shocking I ordered this bed on October 15th and it didn't arrive until November 6th. Spoke to 5 different people from Argos direct and the last 2 I spoke to were really helpful with the problem. The supplier had misplaced the order.

Bad quality bed. Birlea poor customer service.
Bought from Argos and Delivered fine. Upon opening the 5 boxes there were scuffs and scratches on headboard. For the price I paid it should have been scuff free and not passed quality control. The instructions were extremely poor. The booklet had minimal descriptions and unclear pictures. It did not clearly explain which side to put the furniture up when building. It did not detail how to do the hyrdraulic hinges at all. There was a missing screw. The screws mentioned to screw the hinges went through the wood so there are bumps on the outer side which were not noticeable upon screwing. See pictures. We only noticed once hinges were in and too late. The mentioned screws in instructions should not have been as long as they were. The video on you tube is outdated and unclear. Verbal insrtructions would help in the video but none. The video showed a different thing to the booklet and had cuts in the editing when suddenly a piece of furniture would be turned the other way which made it unclear which way was the correct way to build it. The quality of the wooden slats is poor with just plastic holding it together. They are thin pieces of wood which makes it questionable how much weight the frame can take. Once built, the bed looks very nice but the ottoman shuts quite loudly and quickly so you have watch your hands. I really liked the look of this bed which is why I bought it. However, it is overpriced for how poor quality the instructions were. It defo needs more guidance included in the instructions/in the video. Be aware it will take hours and multiple people to build and be cautious of the screwing issue. You have to weigh up whether you should buy it for the aesthetic but pay a higher price for a product that isn’t of great quality. Contacted Birlea upon their request with issues. Sent all photos of problems and scuffs as below. First they said a part was missing causing the damage on the side board. Totally ignoring the scuffs issue. Then when I sent further pictures on request to check the part they thought was missing was actually present they said they would send a replacement part. Ignoring the scuff issue again. When I replied asking that I would like a manager to ring me to discuss what part they were sending as email did not state what they were sending and why they are not dealing with the scuffs issue. They did not reply. I rang to speak to the person communicating with me and left message but once again it I was ignored. Obviously they did not want to deal with the issues raised and don’t feel the customer is important. Very poor customer service from Birlea and shocking how they dealt with the issues. I suppose it is luck. If you get lucky and all parts are correct in the box. You build without any issues and no scuffs then okay. If you have bad experience and need to deal with Birlea customer service then forget getting anywhere. Please check Trust pilot reviews on Birlea furniture and will find similar feedback. I would not buy this bed again or recommend any furniture from Birlea. It is definately not worth the money and hassle.

All good need lots of room to assemble
Brought this couple months ago now so fully tested very good well made bit difficult to get the pistons to work at first but after few times they work fine over all good solid bed and good price

Good so far
Bed looks nice. You can see the mechanism but gets hidden by duvet. The online instructions don’t match the paper ones. In one place it warns you but there was another place as well.Although would be quicker for two people to build I managed to build most of the bed by myself until the end part when two people are definitely needed.. Surprised at the amount of space under the bed. The mechanism is stiff and needs a bit of muscle power but am sure over time that will loosen. So far as good as only used bed couple of times

Great finishing
I bought it 3 weeks ago,it was easy to assemble, however you need two people and big space around to put it together. The booklet explains the correct order to follow. Good quality wood, sturdy.

Not good
Parts are missing from bed

Very misleading
Very misleading saying it has a base when actually it’s just some ply lay on the floor. The bed itself is nice but the fact that it’s described as having ‘a base’ is very wrong

Lydiloo is sort of correct. The actual Birlea website states the width of a standard 4ft 6inch bed frame as 1505mm. A small double 4ft bed width is stated as 1353mm. I suppose that the other retailers are taking their measurements from the Birlea website. I am buying this bed frame so I hope that Eve is correct.
