R1S grabs attention with its flawless look and sound. With tactile curves, exclusive Mid Grey finish and Composite wood hand-crafted grille, R1S exudes fresh contemporary design. The grille material is created from sustainable woods, which are carefully spliced, coloured, and recomposed to closely mimic the rich tones of slow growing hardwoods, without the ecological impact. The cabinet and grille blend perfectly with the trademark RotoDial controller and new colour display, to create a feel that encapsulates the technical capabilities of R1S.
R1S takes this timeless medium to a new level, but with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth also built in, R1S is more than just a radio, but more so a complete music system that's small enough to fit easily into your home, but capable enough to provide day long entertainment.
With Wi-Fi and Bluetooth streaming also built in the appeal of R1S is further enhanced. R1S directly supports Spotify Connect*, Amazon Music and Deezer and with its Bluetooth 5 receiver virtually every other service available. The Bluetooth function remembers up to six devices and provides excellent sound quality and efficiency, meaning minimal battery drain on battery powered devices.

There is no wow factor but it grows on you and you gradually realise you don't want to go back to what you had before.Rather expensive but very good quality build and sound just give it time.

Small and mighty !!
Following a bedroom makeover we found that our original Ruark R5 DAB and Cd player was too large for the space. Some years on from the R5 there are lots of DAB solutions to choose from but having done my research and listened to a fair few too I plumped for the R1S. Easy and fast set up and connected directly to my DAD aerial and WiFi. Sound is fantastic- ok doesn’t have quite the depth of the R5 but it’s a fraction of the size so that’s forgiven !!! Familiar rotary controls and menu all very user friendly. All in all delighted - small feature request (unless I’ve missed a setting) would love to extend the radio alarm duration to beyond an hour.

Great tone
Really enjoying this little radio. Speech quality is so good it doesn't need a high volume when set at maximum treble. Only criticism is that all controls are on top, with no tactile indication of off/on control. Setting directions are not very clear, but this is a minor criticism of an otherwise excellent radio. Highly recommended.

Smart Ruark
Pleased with my purchase. Being a portable radio it's used as such, however its weight and bulk necessitated fixing a camera strap to allow easier /safer portability. There are six presets for radio, curiously however, the remote permits only a maximum of four to be selected ? I know of no TV requiring one to get up and change a TV channel at the TV set because their remote hasn't enough channel buttons ! ! Tidal streaming would have made it compatible with my Naim music system.
