R1S grabs attention with its flawless look and sound. With tactile curves, exclusive Mid Grey finish and Composite wood hand-crafted grille, R1S exudes fresh contemporary design. The grille material is created from sustainable woods, which are carefully spliced, coloured, and recomposed to closely mimic the rich tones of slow growing hardwoods, without the ecological impact. The cabinet and grille blend perfectly with the trademark RotoDial controller and new colour display, to create a feel that encapsulates the technical capabilities of R1S.

Sound is fantastic for such a dinky set
This is a brilliant little radio. Sounds like a much bigger set. Have an old ‘vita’ system from years ago which is still as good as new. Brother has 2 Ruarks and my sister has one too. They are streaks ahead of other similar systems, I’ve had a Robert’s system and a Pure evoke- both gave up the ghost within 5 years( electrics) advised that it happens….. not with my Vita/ ruark nor any of the other family’s ones. We’re all converts.! Wouldn’t buy any other system- you get what you pay for and they’re worth every penny. Love that it’s a home brand too.

R1S radio
Bought our R1S smart radio 3 weeks ago. So pleased we made right choice. Excellent sound, it sits in our extended kitchen and is on all day. Radio 2 on early morning then through Bluetooth play all our downloaded albums and also via Apple Music. Such a beautiful radio. We also have a R3S Compact Music System in the lounge. Good sound from a compact enclosure.
A recent trip to Cornwall where our DAB travel radio couldn't pick up much at all spawned an interest in internet radio, resulting in me changing my R1 Mk4 at home to an R1S. I now have 2 R1S radios (the cream and the grey), and have my eye on this page for a graded charcoal one, to complete the trio. I leave them on for my pets when I am away from home (perhaps slight overkill, but my love of all things hi-fi stops me buying anything cheap and nasty). Can't fault the sound. For such a modest enclosure it really has a "big" sound. The only thing that stops it being perfect in my eyes would be the proviso of an on/off timer facility so that I could set switch on and off times. I know it has a sleep timer but that does not offer the same functionality. My only other gripe is the remote should come bundled with the radio at this end of the price scale. Having said that, control via the UNDOK app (it's the predecessor to OKTIV but I find the older one easier to navigate) means you can also control the radio volume and presets from your smart phone. Although it lacks the bright OLED display of the R1 Mk4, the R1S compensates by having a colour display on this model.

Rural R1 Radio review
This is a fine looking addition to any home, with a beautiful design and nicely put together. It is easy to set up and certainly has enough power and clarity for my needs. I would recommend this radio as good value for the money

Bought this a month ago and as an older person with hearing issues didn't find it very clear. I live in a area with the odd power cuts, when this happens the radio comes on which seem odd. The light on the clock is to bright at night even at its lowest settings. Overall for the price very disappointed.

Great for bed-time listening
I bought this Smart Radio to allow me to listen to radio stations via the Internet as I find the quality of DAB disappointing. Internet radio also provides a wider choice of stations (including overseas). I am impressed with the audio quality and build quality. I would prefer the buttons to be of a more tactile design to allow the radio to be operated more easily in a darkened room such as a bedroom. I think the user interface could be improved. Stylisticallly, I would prefer the fascia to match the rest of the unit. The default setting is far too heavy on bass.

Simply brilliant
I came across the Ruark brand while in James Morrows in Edinburgh & then looked into them online and dropped rather in-subtle hints to my wife for a birthday present. Birthday present was the R1S, and it is just great! Nothing more enjoyable that coming down to breakfast and touching one button & having the radio play… no faff with Sonos or other systems to get internet radio before the coffee! The sound quality is excellent for such a small unit & fills a very large room with excellent rich sound. The accompanying app is simple to use, it does what it does without any complicated steps. I highly reconnect the Ruark smart radio and tempted for another one!!!
