No, they are not designed for that purpose. You should never look directly at a solar eclipse or the sun with standard Category 3 sunglasses. Doing so can cause severe, permanent eye damage or blindness.
The manufacturer explicitly includes a safety warning for these exact sunglasses:
"Usage precautions: Do not use these glasses to look directly at the sun."
Why Standard Sunglasses Aren't Safe for Eclipses:
- Transmittance: Category 3 sunglasses block about 82% to 92% of visible light. Safe solar viewers block 99.999% of visible light (they are roughly 1,000 to 10,000 times darker than standard sunglasses).
- Invisible Radiation: Standard UV protection in sunglasses does not protect your retinas against intense infrared (heat) rays and high-intensity visible light focused directly on the eye. Because sunglasses make the image darker, your pupils dilate, allowing even more damaging radiation into your eyes.
What You Need Instead:
To view a solar eclipse safely, you must use certified solar eclipse glasses or viewers that comply with the ISO 12312-2 international safety standard.

The lenses are shatter-proof, but they are not scratch-proof.
- Impact Resistance: The lenses are made of 100% polycarbonate, a highly durable plastic that resists knocks and will not shatter into dangerous shards if dropped.
- Scratch Vulnerability: While polycarbonate is impact-resistant, it is a relatively soft material and can scratch if it slides across rough surfaces like gravel or pavement.
Recommendation: Since the lenses can scratch if dropped or stored loose in a bag, we highly recommend purchasing a microfiber pouch or hard case to keep your lenses clear.
