Hmm nice looking toaster but on the setting of 2 it burns the toast - not sure what would happen if it was turned up to full. But know we know this it’s fine on 1 and a half. Bit odd thought

The toaster has to be switched on for the bread to stay down.

I know this sounds a bit stupid but the only way my toaster wont stay down is if the switch at the plug socket is on off or try emptying the trays at the bottom just in case a big piece of bread is stuck in it or try pressing the levers in that once worked for me at work hope this helps as I know how annoying it is

You can certainly lift the bread up during toasting however this would be a manual operation not automatic.
