Powerful suction and effective pet hair removal praised; stiff, fragile power cord and heaviness frequently criticized. Auto-detect feature works well on hard floors but struggles on thick carpets.

Best vacuum cleaner for pet hairs.
I have a Golden Retriever so dog hairs are a problem. This is by far the best vacuum cleaner I have had to tackle this problem. I love the features, such as the “detect” mode and the fact that it’s easy to empty. Because it is powerful it is easy to use and it’s almost a case of guiding it rather than pushing it. However, that is also the only reason I held back on the fifth star, because although pushing it forward is easy it can sometimes be a bit heavy to pull back. Having said that I would highly recommend this cleaner to anyone with pets.

Superb High Vacuum Machine
Was impressed with the speed of delivery (next day despite being ordered after 7pm one evening). Well packaged and a quality machine inside. Was a bit weighty but nevertheless it feels like it will last a long time. Having read previous reviews, it appears that the irritating minor faults reported have all been resolved. The suction is superb, the cleaning is amazing and having a clean cylinder on an older vacuum we had, we vacuumed the lounge. We then vacuumed the lounge with the new Shark and ... my goodness, you would either be amazed at the Shark cleaning power or disgusted at the previously "clean" carpet. We will never go back from Shark again. So much better than a company claiming to be British but moving to Malaysia and raking in the money (a copmetitor starting with "D")

Awful and feels cheap
This vaccum is awful, the detect function doesn't work on carpet, it just refuses to work, we have to select thick carpet for it to work, our carpet isn't thick. Took it back as thought it was faulty and the new one is just as bad. The vacuum itself is very clunky, it feels like its cheap. The wire is awful, very stiff and not as flexible as the old one I had, making it hard to wrap up once finished with, again feels cheap. The suction is good but a head ache to use after having to switch off and on just to get it to hoover our carpet.

Switched from cordless - best decision we made!
I was worried given the comments on the wire - absolutely no issue. Yes, it’s a bit stiff when it’s first unwrapped but now we’ve used it a few times it’s softening. The suction is incredible - to the point where we can’t hoover the dog matt at the back door as the suction is so strong it jams the rollers, but that’s been our only negative. The suction has transferred our bedroom carpet, which is a thicker, pile - I never realised how flat it had gone until I used this hoover. The light on the wand when hoovering the stairs, skirtings or sofa is just next level. I’m now looking for things to hoover!!

The mother of all vacuums but….. !
I previously had a Shark cylinder vacuum which was great until the motor failed and the model was discontinued. Because of that, I decided to purchase this upright one. It worked well at first, but the poor-quality, stiff power cable didn’t last long. It gets damaged very easily and mine started failing after only a few months of normal use. And before anyone suggests it…..the damage wasn’t caused by the usual tug-of-war with the cable. I treat vacuum cords better than most people treat their phone chargers. The power cord /cable is vital in its operation and can easily become an electrical hazard, hence my 2 stars. The biggest problem is that it’s not an easy repair job, and you can’t buy a replacement main unit. Shark must be aware that this is a known issue, but it doesn’t appear that anything has been done to address it.

Great vacuum terrible cable
I bought this vacuum as I have loved shark products and have had many shark vacuums. I absolutely love this product apart from the cable which is rigid and very hard to manage. This is a replacement as the cable on the previous one split and exposed the wires . Unfortunately I can see that this one will go the same way . I don’t understand why a company like shark would allow the cable to be acceptable as it totally lets down the product . If shark would change this cable to a soft flexible one it would in my opinion make it the best vacuum on the market by far but as it is it will continue to be a problem and lets down the shark brand.

Incredibly powerful, but SmartDetect features are
I want to start by saying that this is an incredibly powerful and effective vacuum. The suction is outstanding, and on hard floors or thin rugs, it performs brilliantly. However, there is a major design flaw if you have thick or plush carpets. I recently moved into a relatively new build property where the carpets are still quite thick. Whenever I try to use the automated 'Detect' mode on them, the suction is so strong that the floorhead seals itself to the carpet. This causes the brush roll to completely stall and triggers the red safety shut-off lights. The only way to vacuum most of my house is to manually switch to the 'Thick Carpet' mode. While this opens a suction relief valve and allows the vacuum to move, it completely disables the entire 'SmartDetect' suite. You lose EdgeDetect, DirtDetect, and FloorDetect entirely. It is incredibly frustrating to pay a premium price for smart features that you cannot actually use in most rooms of your house. Shark really needs to bring back manual height adjustment for the floorhead so users can utilize the smart sensors without the vacuum gluing itself to the floor. Great machine for hard floors, but keep this limitation in mind if your home has thick carpets.

Its a good hoover has a couple of negatives
Its a good hoover but has some negatives the cord is way to stiff and i have a feeling it will soon split, also the power detect has a habit of racing me around the living room, i have choosen to pick the setting i need as and when. I can not wven smell the odour eliminator on it at all so i feel thats a waste of time i wont be replacing mine.
