great cleaner but not easy for using on stairs
The only reason this gets 4 star and not 5 stars is because the hose is not long enough to clean stairs. Other then that, really good machine, have used on rugs and carpet. be prepared to be shocked how dirty the carpet is :)

Definitely, you can switch to handheld mode by detaching the hose and connect the stain tool to clean the seats, or the interior of the car.
The handle on the Shark CarpetXpert is not intended to be removed once it has been assembled, as it is designed to securely click into place when inserted into the main unit during the initial setup.
