For the price of a new carpet!!!!
Following the decimation of a new carpet, (kids eh?) we had a large quantity of dried cocoa in the carpet. This job used a lot of water and shampoo. It will likely take a few days to dry out, but clean it now is. Whilst the carpet is not showroom condition, its really not that far off. The before and after picture is testament to this cleaner.

First time using a carpet cleaner. This did a good job but difficult to clean out as have to use screwdrivers to remove roller etc! Cleaned hard floors too and worked well.

Failed on day of purchase
I bought this carpet cleaner and when assembling it did seem a little flimsy and on the lower quality side. Regardless I began using the machine on a 'fairly' deep cut-pile carpet. Pulling the machine backwards wasn't too bad, pushing the machine forwards however, was awful. The row of small brushes at the back was skipping and jolting and locking up constantly and after around 30 seconds of using the machine, stopped rotating altogether. The machine then started making an awful screeching noise and smelled like burnt plastic. It was at that point that I disassembled the machine, put it back in the box and returned it for a refund the next day. After this ordeal, I purchased the Rug Doctor 'Deep Upright' carpet cleaner as I should've done in the first place. Although £60 more (at the time of purchase) it's far better built, stronger, more powerful and did a great job of all the carpets and upholstery in my home.

Vax Platinum Power Max Pet-Design Carpet Cleaner
Having checked I can see the steps below are to be followed to clean the brush bar:
Switch the machine off and unplug from the wall socket.
With both tanks removed, lie the machine back.
Undo the 2 screws to remove the belt cover.
Using a crosshead screwdriver remove the 4 screws on the side brushes and the top and bottom screws from each of the rug guards (metal pins) to get access to the brush bar.
Pull and slide to remove the left end cap. Pull and slide to remove the right end cap and unloop the belt from the brush bar.
Using a pair of scissors, remove any threads or hair caught around the brushes. Rinse under water to remove debris.
To refit, loop the brush bar through the belt and onto the belt grip, and push the brush bar in to place.
Line up the ‘right’ side brushes with the base and slide into place. Attach the brush bar to the side brushes.
Attach the ‘left’ side of the brush bar to the side brushes. Slide onto the side of the base and in to place.
Refit the belt cover and 2 screws. Replace the rug guards then replace all screws tightening to secure.
