I bought this as a birthday present for my granddaughter who is six years old.She is fascinated by the stars and planets. She is very pleased with the telescope and is one of the few people I know who is looking forward to dark Scottish nights to explore the heavens more fully.

Having read the previous reviews and the checked the products heritage, Royal Observatory and Celestron I was expecting simplicity and quality. Very disappointed to report that aligning the device was difficult/nigh on impossible and the eventual imagery of the large objects I.e. the moon was not great. x75 theoretical maximum magnification is a pipe dream. The details on the Argos app, no doubt supplied by the manufacturer, talks of using an app with it, except this is a dumb device with no smart features so the app is of no use, but the implication is that it integrates with the telescope - it doesn’t.
On the whole I’ll be back this week to return it.

Question from Crj

Hello There.
After checking with our supplier, they have advised for Celestron Royal Observatory Greenwich FirstScope.
Celestron SkyPortal is a planetarium app which can be used on compatible smart phones independent of a telescope. It is an interactive guide to the night sky.
Celestron SkyPortal cannot connect with this telescope.
Celestron SkyPortal can be used to control Celestron computerised telescopes, an additional accessory is required for this functionality (Celestron SkyPortal WiFi module)
My first telescope was a 40x40 refractor telescope. I spent ages trying to focus on a star that turned out to be a speck of paint on the window.
A decent telescope comes with a ground mounted tripod which has a tray for the other eyepieces. A normal telescopes tripod is aligned with the north star and the axis is locked. The other axis is used to locate the star,
